Saw a Southwest flight attendant tell someone they couldn't use this. Never looked into why or if it was even valid since I don't use one
I fly all the time and I don't know why a FA would have an issue with this. The only thing I can think of is the person was using it during takeoff/landing when the tray table needs to be upright and locked.
Why does this have a light which is directly in your face. That picture of a guy watching a movie on an airplane with the light blasting him is uncomfortable just to observe.
Do they know that you can't make video calls on an airplane? Unless this is exclusively aimed at people who are doing their make up on a plane, in which case a lighted mirror with magnification is a much better alternative.

Obviously the most likely reason is 'power trip with unverifiable made-up rules because life sucks and shit rolls down hill so whenever you're on a mound 2-inches above someone else, take that shit' aka humans suck. But benefit of the doubt and all, I think it's plausible based on the design that is looks similar to those recline-blockers that attached to tray tables and wedged into the tray table slot of the seat in front of you and prevented them from reclining, which caused many a conflict and may have lead to bans from airlines, which also may have come in the form of 'no things that attach to tray tables - because safety and airlines... period' because calling out 'safety' and 'airlines' seems to be the unquestionable trump card in rule-making, so long as the rules apply to the public cattle-masses and not the FAA or US Gov itself.
