Orange juice blend?

Contains:

Ingredients
Filtered Water, Orange Juice Concentrate, Pear Juice Concentrate, Apple Juice Concentrate, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Natural Flavor, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), and Gellan Gum (Stabilizer).

Pass for me. If I want orange juice, I want pure. I also note that this apparently doesn't need to be refrigerated. That might be the only reason to buy this if that is important to you.

Several years back this product read only as orange juice and said as much. The last many years of bad growth has resulted in these blends coming out of the woodwork to stretch orange juice. I assume these were lower quality oranges that didn't make the cut for fresh or frozen juices and thus were blended with other juices to mask the flavors and sweeten it up a great deal. I'm sure you've seen fresh orange + other citrus blends at different times of the year. We're in strange times, friend.
On another note, the product in the post sounds positively disgusting. If anyone must purchase shelf stable oj then Langers or Great Value are better offerings if you must, but Tropicana does make a shelf stable version that's only orange juice but it's rare to find nowadays. Minute Maid's frozen oj offerings are pure concentrate, some of us who are products of the 80s will remember that particular oj flavor.

Reminds me of Naked Juice smoothies. They used to be nice and thick, consisting mostly of stuff like strawberries and bananas. Now they're all watery and the main ingredient is apple juice.

Not sure if there's a word for it. It's not quite shrinkflation.

I haven't bought them in about a decade. I do remember the thick texture. We stopped buying them once we realized we could make something similar with fresh ingredients. The words may be cost cutting, quality erosion or economization. It's been a very long time since I took an economics class. My wife suggested we get a Ninja blender to do it ourselves. We don't use it as often as before but the quality is unmatched and you get a lot more for your money, IMO. Pepsi sold Naked about five or six years ago to PAI a PE firm. There is your reasoning. I had to look that up but it tracks because I'm familiar with that firm and their cheapening of products.
Bolthouse was a very good company in the 80s up until the late 20 teens when they got sold off to a PE company by Campbell's. The strange part is people were pissed in the 2000s when they got sold off to a private equity but they never messed with the quality nor did Campbell's. There was a noticeable change in product quality after Campbell's sold it off and an increase in price.
We prefer to buy bottled juices or smoothies from more independent or smaller companies that focus on quality first rather than cost cutting. But damn did I love Naked and Bolt. Bolt still has one good product and it's their refrigerated organic carrot juice. It does spoil fast once you open it but it's delicious.

enshitification - classic move that sees a company create a product like OJ and market it to consumers and give vendors good deals to make some profit selling it at their stores. After a few months to years without warning they change the recipe to reduce the cost 50% but make the product 100x worse. Same name, same marketing, same customer/business positive association - way worse shit product with huge profit margins. Do this until the majority of people notice and "improve" the product or release a "new and improved" product at a higher cost advertising the same high quality ingredients that were offered in the first place
