Depends on which is cheaper. I've tried both. I think they're roughly comparable. The REI is lighter, but also has a lower waterproof rating. Both are packable, and both surpass the requirements for most ultra-marathon kits for waterproof rating so...that's about all I know or care about.
Wow some bad reviews. Typical REI overpriced crap.
1) People assume that a rain jacket is going to be impermeable (and they rarely are) and 2) REI will take it back if it doesn't work. I think some people buy active rain layers, like this one, and presume it's going to be some sort of Gore-tex fortress. It probably works well for what it's intended for...namely as a technical layer for backpacking or trailrunning. It has pit zips, it's packable, and it's under $100. Seems good if it's something you're looking for.

Ordered one. It sounds like g-tex. I wouldn't know the difference looking at pics and description. I used to have TNF real g-tex until it fell apart after many years of light seasonal use. It was really waterproof. Now real g-tex costs a lot more, maybe 2-4 times the price of this? I ordered one. Hope it fits.
