Great price, underwhelming performance, so probably best for an inexpensive tablet that you're just going to use for fight reading or you're going to have your kids use it.

I have the nxtpaper 10 and specs apart, the screen, matte display and the various reading modes (which are the same for this tablet as well) really make a difference in the experience, especially if one does a lot of reading. This tablet has literally replaced the kindle for my kid with the advantage of having access to online local libraries in US (because of android apps) and read books with color pics on the go. YMMV

I've been looking into the NxtPaper devices since they popped up on my radar. A couple things one should be aware of before buying in...

TCL has used the same anemic processor on all of these NxtPaper devices and has no desire to change that. There's even a new NxtPaper tablet on Kickstarter right now and it still uses the same ancient CPU.

TCL has never sold replacement nibs for their various stylus models. Last I heard, the official word from TCL is they have no plans on changing that in the future.

Caveat emptor on this one, folks.

You know you can just send Libby books to your kindle, right?

Sure but browsing for a library book on the device is great & I am sure for kids really really great. Can't imagine a kid enjoying a kids book on a Kindle as much as this.
I have the 10" NXTPAPER and I send books to my Kindle Colorsoft but in reality hardly use that device anymore. I read magazines on the 10" NXTPAPER and using the Kindle app on the NXTPAPER is almost like using the Kindle itself in terms of reading comfort. In fact I prefer reading many books on it due to the larger size.

There is the temptation to do other things on it though which the Kindle cuts out.

That said my 10" NXTPAPER can emulate run up to most GameCube games and it is pretty nice to play some Wind Waker on the same device as my magazines and books are loaded onto. Not to mention Spotify and YouTube ect. Just a great all around basic use device. I imagine the 8" is similar just smaller so maybe magazines are less fun.

Edit just realized the 8" is less powerful so that might be a reason to wait for the 10" I have. 4gb RAM works for android but the 6gb in the 10" is surely worth it along with the slightly faster CPU in the 10". FWIIW many previous deals have included the 10"so hopefully so will future ones...

It's best use is as an "e-reader" because of the NXTPAPER screen design plus the access to Android reading apps.

I have this from the earlier Straight Talk deal with two Moto G Stylus 2025 phones for ~$120.

It works great for Duolingo, Audible, lichess, etc. I like the matte screen. Not great for gaming, I imagine.

I haven't checked whether it's unlocked. I'll likely just pay the extra $20 for a second month so all three devices are permanently unlocked because I activated before the change in VZW MVNO's unlock policy:

https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home/

It's supposed to get one Android version update, from what I understand.

I got it for the purpose you're describing... and never use it because the battery life is putrid.

How many hours do you estimate your battery is lasting?

It's been reported that the 10" sold by ST comes unlocked so the new unlock policy isn't an issue.

This was the reason I would hesitate to jump on this. TCL tablets are slow as heck like onn tablets. 6gb RAM isn't going to cut it either. The storage is abysmally slow. Things take a tad bit longer than needed to have a decent experience.

I got the 10" deal from last month. I think that was a decent deal. But I not using it as much as I thought I would. The screen is nice, looks to be the same coating as Apple nano display. But the tablet is underpowered garbage.

Also this is what TCL dos. They put out the absolute least amount of crap and repackage it year after year. I am worried how they are going to suck the soul out of the Sony electronics.
