In my experience of buying multiple budget tablets, it's a toss up. If you just need to run one app and ok with delays, sure go for it. Though, I regret every budget tablet purchase. I could have bought a decent one for the money I spent over all of them and it would have lasted all of them combined and without needing to living with those deficiencies.

That's a good point about one good tablet lasting as long as multiple budget ones.

Sure but browsing for a library book on the device is great & I am sure for kids really really great. Can't imagine a kid enjoying a kids book on a Kindle as much as this.I have the 10" NXTPAPER and I send books to my Kindle Colorsoft but in reality hardly use that device anymore. I read magazines on the 10" NXTPAPER and using the Kindle app on the NXTPAPER is almost like using the Kindle itself in terms of reading comfort. In fact I prefer reading many books on it due to the larger size. There is the temptation to do other things on it though which the Kindle cuts out. That said my 10" NXTPAPER can emulate run up to most GameCube games and it is pretty nice to play some Wind Waker on the same device as my magazines and books are loaded onto. Not to mention Spotify and YouTube ect. Just a great all around basic use device. I imagine the 8" is similar just smaller so maybe magazines are less fun.Edit just realized the 8" is less powerful so that might be a reason to wait for the 10" I have. 4gb RAM works for android but the 6gb in the 10" is surely worth it along with the slightly faster CPU in the 10". FWIIW many previous deals have included the 10"so hopefully so will future ones...
For anyone else reading this, I am able to browse, reserve, and check out library books from my kobo e-reader. It's also a lot more open than the kindle. Personally I prefer to avoid the other distractions of a tablet and have a dedicated reader.

Yes, the tablets from these deals are usually unlocked. The phones are not.

I don't like company that's worth $14 billions riding on Kickstarter. I have their TV that's fine but just sell the tablet in market and I will see if I like it. Also lcd and eink are not the same, at least for older population.

You know you can just send Libby books to your kindle, right?
I have noticed a few books that I was interested in lately do NOT have the send to Kindle option. You can get an Adobe protected PDF, or open up in the Libby app. Example being "Emily Eternal".

I got this slick deal and I'm going to try to return it. It's just so slow and the resolution is so low that it's awful to use.

I figured since it was next paper 4.0 that it would be similar to the TCL11+. There the experience is fine. It looks great and really seems to be suited for reading. I think it has a slightly faster processor and two gigabytes more of RAM, so still underpowered, but at least it's not awful like this 8-inch tablet is.

I've been looking into the NxtPaper devices since they popped up on my radar. A couple things one should be aware of before buying in...

TCL has used the same anemic processor on all of these NxtPaper devices and has no desire to change that. There's even a new NxtPaper tablet on Kickstarter right now and it still uses the same ancient CPU.

TCL has never sold replacement nibs for their various stylus models. Last I heard, the official word from TCL is they have no plans on changing that in the future.

Caveat emptor on this one, folks.

This was the reason I would hesitate to jump on this. TCL tablets are slow as heck like onn tablets. 6gb RAM isn't going to cut it either. The storage is abysmally slow. Things take a tad bit longer than needed to have a decent experience.

I got the 10" deal from last month. I think that was a decent deal. But I not using it as much as I thought I would. The screen is nice, looks to be the same coating as Apple nano display. But the tablet is underpowered garbage.

Also this is what TCL dos. They put out the absolute least amount of crap and repackage it year after year. I am worried how they are going to suck the soul out of the Sony electronics.
These specs are contracted and commissioned by various US carriers with intention to boost EIP and new customer growth via sales like this. TCL and other cell provider only brands wouldn't update the specs unless Verizon/TotalWireless asks them to. This is completely different than actual businesses for TCL if you've followed any of TCL's TV lineup in recent years, when have they not released a flagship product with new innovative specs?

How do you even check lock status on this tablet? It's in none of the usual places.

I got it for $45 since I'm a existing total wireless customer the tablet plan was only $10. It's been great since I only wanted it for books and manga.

Got one, received, and been using since yesterday. Really like the matte screen, especially the e-ink modes for reading. It's just a tad bigger than my Fold6 and have nearly the same feel. It will be my go-to tablet at home and travel. I signed up for Helium Zero so should be able to use the 3GB of data (assuming the tablet is unlocked).

There are a couple of issues. 1) Facebook app keeps getting disabled after restarting, 2) Nova launcher crashes when trying to change icon. Tolerable issues, but can be annoying. Even at $85 instead of $45, this is definitely worth it for me. Thinking I'll get more to replace the kid's Samsung S7 tablets (no longer getting OS upgrades) and their color Kindles. Let's see how the battery life will be before pulling the trigger.

It's unlocked. Just checked using a Helium Mobile SIM and it worked. Also found out that it's a tablet only even on SIM service. No phone functionality.

Thanks for letting me know! Yeah the phone features being blocked is especially annoying considering it even includes the messages app.
