I try to post this helpful info when I see sales. (Refurbs may not get the free game or activation credit) .

If you don't like the "free" games of the month you can hold off activating Meta+ for 3 months.

Games claimed for "free" through the subscription are only accessible with an active subscription.

$30 credit for those that use a friend link prior to device setup (it's a ban-able offense on SD to post/request such links but check Reddit)

ALL SALES ARE TARGETED meaning they could offer 50% off to one account and no sale for another.

When buying games check for developer links to save a flat 10-20% when there is no active sale on the game.

You're going to want a better strap and there's 2 or 3 great options for under $100. Some have hot swap batteries.(examples kiwi, globular, boboVR)

If you have glasses or a stigmatism there are snap on prescription lenses for $20 on sites or $50 direct from Meta.

The max credit you can attain per year is $599 (anything $600+ is taxable)

The 4th gen headset is expected 2026/2027

There's free 3rd party software like OcularMigraine that improves visuals at the cost of battery life. Others like Quest Games Optimizer have a price associated along with permissions.

The games with PCVR need the Meta app for PC and many others recommend Virtual Desktop when on sale.

You do not need to link FB/IG to your account can use a normal email account.

If you mess up the $30 link you have 7 days to click a $30 link and factory reset your headset and go through initial setup to get it. Otherwise you need a good bit of personal info from the other person for support to process it. Sometimes there's a promo for $60 credit so check the app.

I'm sure there is info I forgot like there's no crossbuy and if you see it that means it gives you a Meta PC copy you need the app to play.

360 videos through the YouTube app are not true 4K and should be downloaded to view uncompressed.

Rechargeable batteries for the controllers are a must as they take 1 AA each.

Activate 2 factor authentication and set a pin for purchases to minimize accidents. There is a small return window for purchases but YMMV with support.

Those with GeForceNow can use it with the headset but the experience is not amazing yet.

Do NOT expose headset or lenses to direct or reflected sunlight (use a cover)

If you owned a Quest2 and purchase a Quest3 you may still be able to get the $30 activation credit.

Do NOT leave the headset charging for hours unsupervised or with 3rd party plugs/cables

Always read reviews as Most Recent and check online for in depth reviews.

I've accidentally punched my headset during a vr workout and thankfully it was fine but mind your surroundings.

Meta+ is not needed to use the headset (my 3 month trial ran out)

Only use a dry microfiber cloth to clean your lenses or risk removing the anti glare coating

I own a Quest 3 and have run into bugs claiming Meta credit so be aware support wants a full name, in-game alias and email address of both people to add credit.

Meta has closed down some studios that just released games like Deadpool. However be aware ViperVice releases in February and there's still a TMNT and Star Trek game in the works. Some would say save up for Steam Frame and they are not wrong.

Since you seem to be an expert on this headset, question this vs Quest 3? Are the pancakes worth the extra almost $200? For someone who has never owned a VR headset? I was planning on waiting for the steam frame but I suspect it will be closer to the $800 price range and my absolute max is $500 for these types of purchases. This is also a birthday gift for my 12 year old if it makes a difference. He has been waiting on a VR headset since he was 9 but told him he was too young back then.

kids wont have an issue with lower resolution. Steam frame seems like the better option

Great summary! I'm also undecided on the 3s vs 3. Is 256GB sufficient or spend the extra for double the memory and better optics. And supposedly a more comfortable fit if wearing glasses...

This is my dilemma if there was any insight on pricing for the steam frame I may just settle for the cheapest 3s.

There are some games that are ~40GB but most of the good ones are under ~10GB. The pancakes on the 3 are nice to avoid screen door effect and helps hit 2k in each eye. I do not wear glasses but did purchase the lenses to keep the pancakes scratch free. You can order for your needs.

The battery not being replaceable, the issues with claiming Quest Cash, games are stuck in the Meta ecosystem and if you don't use Quest games optimizer or Ocular migraine to boost performance the quality is limited.
