This Micro Center bundle pairs the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, ASUS X870-P Prime Wi Fi, and 32GB of Crucial Pro DDR5 into a very strong value package, especially for a gaming build. The pricing works out far below buying the parts separately, and the CPU is treated as a lightly tuned 9800X3D class chip. The motherboard is full size with four M.2 slots, but it only has two SATA ports, so storage expansion may need adapters or a PCIe SATA card. The main hesitation is the recent ASUS 800 series CPU reliability concern, which makes some prefer an MSI board instead. Overall, it is a compelling bundle if the board fit and storage layout suit the build.

Common Questions (4)

  • There are reports of ASUS 800-series boards damaging Ryzen 7 9800X3D chips, and several comments recommend considering an MSI X870E or Tomahawk instead for peace of mind. A newer ASUS BIOS was also mentioned as a possible fix, but the concern is still active.

  • Yes. The bundled ASUS X870-P Prime Wi-Fi has only 2 SATA ports, but it also has 4 M.2 slots, and the board is full-size enough to add a PCIe SATA card or use an M.2-to-SATA adapter if you need more storage ports.

  • Yes. The bundle was called out at $699.99-$700, with standalone pricing cited around $499 for the CPU, $380 for the RAM, and $240 for the motherboard, making the package far cheaper than buying the parts separately.

  • Yes, but the motherboard's 2 SATA ports are the main limitation. The board's 4 M.2 slots make it workable for many builds, and extra SATA can be added with a PCIe SATA card or M.2-to-SATA adapter; one comment also notes the SATA ports sit at the top edge of the board for clearance planning.

i need an mini-itx board, but dang nvme prices are absurd
Are they though? I keep finding deals on NVMe's like I just got a 2TB Gen4 Orico in with external enclosure for $137 ordered 2 days ago from Newegg. Some Walmarts still have WD Blue or Black for decent prices. A decent price NVMe is easier to find then decent price RAM.

Word of warning, there is currently an investigation by ASUS for 800 series boards and destroyed 9800X3D CPUs. This has been a major topic in the last week. Now clearly this is the 9850X3D and not the 9800X3D, and some are pointing the finger at AMD but I would be extremely hesitant to pull the trigger on this deal when this CPUs more popular sibling is getting fried at alarming rates.

This is a tempting deal. I want to build my son a new gaming PC. But wish they had a m-atx or Mini-ITX motherboards in this type of package deal.

Not the most desirable mobo but still an amazing deal.
$346.67 for the 9850x3d
$199.99 for the RAM (but skip the Micron dies and swap in G.skill for an extra $20)
$153.33 for the mobo that you can dump on ebay.
CPU is essentially just an well binned 9800x3d with a slight overclock not worth paying any notable premium but the value in this combo is the same or better than the 9800x3d combos.

Mobo in combo only has 2x SATA, which might be a negative surprise depending on your setup.
I still use SATA HDDs, some in the 20TB+ variety so that's fine w/ me which was why I bought the motherboard 😂. Also, those SATA ports are right at the very top of the MB, w/ the I/O panel to the left of them and VRM heatsink to the right of them.

Wow. I just spent $450 on 9800x3d, $355 on 32GB RAM, and $330 on a better MSI x870 Carbon motherboard. Wish I'd had this deal.

That's an amazing deal. If I had a Microcenter that was closer I would upgrade my 7800X3D and sell the rest! Probably not worth a drive to Ohio though.

Incredible deal! I had just ordered this CPU and exact same RAM kit for $824.99+tax from Amazon. This is $124.99 less and I get a free motherboard that I can probably flip for like $50 bucks on OfferUp. Banging deal!

Asrock mobos? I have not seen asus be a problem and have had an asus board with a 9800X3D for about 3 months so far with no issues.

Edit: I found the articles, this is a real thing for the B850 and X870E. I have an X870E so RIP

I got this bundle deal last year with a 7950X3D for $720. Ram must be crazy expensive now.
