Considering in the past week there have been new reports of ASUS boards burning the 9800x3D it might be worth considering the MSI 870E board bundle for only $50 more. It might be a fixable issue or not even an issue with this particular combo but I'd at least consider it for peace of mind.

Mobo in combo only has 2x SATA, which might be a negative surprise depending on your setup.

Before I would say that's wack but I'm considering bringing a 12TB HDD out of retirement with these NVMe prices.

Since i got a NAS I don't use hard drives in *ANY* of my 3 PC workstations (all 5090/9950x3d setups) or the M4 Macbook air i bought.

I don't see the point anymore. I upgraded the workstaitons to have 10gigabit cards (had to use a riser with the one computer to just get a 10gig card in there with the giant 5090... get an FE if you ever get one.. it's nice to get so much SPACE back on the board)

10gig connection to the NAS is ~1GB/second and it absolutely does saturate the connection whether i use the hard drive array or the NVME array on my nas...

I really do suggest people just do the same even if they can't do 10gig and even if they can't justify buying a prebuilt nas... Not hard to find a workstation that's getting retired for basically nothing and building your own NAS...

Not having a single spinning disk in any of my computers is genuinely super nice.
I get it though right now, prices are absurd. I am glad i did most of my upgrading at the beginning of last summer.

NVME drives have went up a bit in price but you can still buy gen 4's a bit cheaper and it's not a difference that most people will even notice at all... I notice it because of the stuff I use my computers for, but it's really not necessary to go gen5 and pay the "AI bubble tax"

Yup. A brand new, just-released, world-beating $499 gaming processor that isn't yet available from most stores and outlets. Plus $380 EEK! (Newegg) of RAM and a $240 (Newegg) motherboard. So an $1120 bundle for $700 ... not bad!

2 Sata is wack. But worth the trade with 4x M2 slots. You can always get M2 to Sata adapter if you need more ports.
