Product Details:
  • mClassic Retro is focused on enhancing visuals for older games in their native 4:3 aspect ratio; Choose between 3 different modes to customize your lag-free gaming experience
  • Your visual enhancement quest begins with Retro Mode (Mode 1), which sharpens the images and upscales up to 1440p/60hz while preserving the original 4:3 aspect ratio; The same as Retro Mode on the mClassic OG.
  • Vintage Mode (Mode 2) takes your visual adventure back to when 4:3 aspect ratio CRT TVs ruled the Earth, replicating their original colors, lighting, and sounds while upscaling, sharpening, and reducing the visual artifacts from modern TVs and monitors
  • Vintage Enhance Mode (Mode 3) applies additional refinements to your Vintage Mode adventure for a more fine-tuned experience; It's kind of like what your memories would be if you actually cleaned your parent's basement back in the day
  • mClassic Retro works with NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, the original Xbox, TurboGrafx 16 and more; 3rd party HDMI adapter is needed to connect (not included)
  • mClassic Retro plugs in between your game console, or your console's HDMI adapter, and the HDMI input on your TV or monitor. Power is provided by included micro-USB cable, plugged into an available USB port or AC power adapter (AC power adapter and console HDMI adapter not included)
  • Your TVs Game Mode provides low-lag gaming experiences, but does so by reducing your image quality. mClassic Retro restores that image quality without adding additional lag, for an optimal retro gaming environment

This thing is notoriously "not good". Below is a Youtube review outlining the exact reasons why, but the short of it is it's "okay" on consoles that have a built-in HDMI out (xbox, dreamcast, ps2, etc). And it basically does close to nothing on older consoles that didn't have that native output (even with an adapter).

Yeah, it looks like you need either an adapter or a console modded with HDMI.

If it's for old systems to improve picture on a new 4k tv, why is it an hdmi input, which no old consoles use? I assume I'd have to get a converter to hook up to this converter?

Exactly. Apparently they have a different idea of what retro means...
Also I'd point out some TV have up-scaling built in.

I disagree. At this price, it's a great way to clean up the output of some consoles to look a little bit better on a 4k screen. This dude's video is comparing to retrotink's >$700 upscaler technologies. For $34 after tax and shipping, count me in. For $100, I would pass.

Yes, you'll need an adapter to convert the output from an older console to HDMI. eBay and Amazon are lousy with ~$6 to $40 options depending on which console you want to hook up. Some are converter boxes where you plug in RCA, component, super video, or VGA into a box and it outputs to HDMI, some are direct console to HDMI cables. I prefer the converter boxes as I still have all of my old cables, but if you didn't already have the cable, the console to HDMI might be a better option.

These things are snake oil, not because they don't do something, they just do something that does nothing meaningful to anyone except its creator.

every single console you listed as having native HDMI output, does NOT have native HDMI (i.e. xbox, dreamcast, PS2). id question that validity of anything you post going forward...

I had one of these things. It barely worked when it worked and it stopped spontaneously after a week.

Be sure and try your TV first. A lot of TVs, like my LG and an old cheap no-name, have excellent quality analog inputs. These external units often suck.

Serious question...is this better than the Retroscaler I bought on AliExpress? I don't get how either works. I am using for an N64.
