Stainless-steel / Carbon-steel / Cast-iron all the way for me. Gimme something that can be used with metal utensils. Not pans and pots that I need to baby.
This 8 inch Carote skillet is mainly praised as a lightweight nonstick egg pan that can hold up well with gentle use. The coating has stayed intact for years in some kitchens, especially when washed by hand with soap, a soft sponge, or just a rinse and wipe, and the 10 inch version is often preferred for more room. The main cautions are that overheating, rapid hot and cold changes, abrasive cleaning, and dishwasher use can wear the coating down, with some reports of failure after months to about a year. It is a compact, easy to handle pan if cared for carefully.
Careful cooks who avoid overheating, because the coating holds up when you skip burning food and rapid hot-cold temperature swings.
It is labeled dishwasher unsafe, and the safer care routine is to rinse with water and wipe it out by hand. Abrasive cleaning and dishwasher use can shorten the life of the nonstick coating, so hand-washing is the better choice if you want it to last.
It can hold up well for eggs for years if you keep the heat low and clean it gently. A reported long-term use case stayed nonstick after two years with soap and a soft sponge, while overheating or rapid hot/cold changes can damage the coating.
The 8-inch pan is listed at $13.99, and the glass lid version is $3 more. The same comment also lists the 10-inch with lid at $20 and the 12-inch with lid at $23.
The 8-inch is workable, but the 10-inch is the better all-around size for most cooking. The 8-inch is especially suited to eggs and smaller portions, while the 10-inch gives more room.
I had one of these that lasted about a year before the coating started to fail. I only used silicone utensils with it too. Finally decided to just go back to the old cast iron.
it says dishwasher unsafe... anyone with experience with this know if it holds up okay in dishwasher? I am fine getting 1-2 years out of it, but if it a few runs destroys the nonstick then i'll pass

Why would you put it in the dishwasher? Its nonstick just rinse with water and wipe out with a paper towel.

They're cheap for a reason. Fail quickly in my experience, after just a dozen or so uses and cleaning with blue 3M Scotchbrite pads... I've had other non-stick pans work for years and remain better than the Carote pan I had for just a few months.
sctochbrite, seriously? just rinse and wipe it out with a paper towel, its nonstick.
its wild that y'all treat the pans this way then blame the pans. would you wash your car with sandpaper and then say the car has bad paint?

Scotchbrite, BLUE. NO, they're not all the same. The blue ones are supposedly safe for nonstick surfaces. And somehow you missed the point that my other nonstick pans have all survived and lasting much longer than the Carote. Despite being obvious that I treat them in the same manner.

They are not safe for nonstick, it doesnt matter what the people selling them to you say. Why would you even need to use any abrasive? Its nonstick most food just rinses right out if you cook properly.
No, they are not lying. They use PTFE (Teflon). Nowhere on their website will you see PTFE not being used for obvious reasons. In fact they have a pro-PTFE page: https://www.mycarote.com/pages/al...about-ptfe
