FYI: Ozone destroys chemical double bonds. It addition to breaking down smelly hydrocarbons it will also destroy some plastics and rubber compounds.

I used an ozone generator in a stinky room when we first moved into our house and then aired it out for hours. The residual smell was noticeable for weeks, but the room is a spare bedroom, so it didn't pose a problem for anyone.

Stinky car? Run it with windows closed for like 10 mins. Air out for 2 days. No more stinky, only you are stinky now! 🤣

No living things should be in car when item is running !

I run this in my shed once a year hoping it will kill some of the poisonous spiders lurking in the crevices.

Wait, what? Ozone is a powerful oxidizer. It oxidizes the stinky stuff and makes it not smell. It works, what's up for debate is which models actually produce ozone and which ones just claim to.
That being said, it also can oxidize non-smelling things. It can make plastics brittle and change the appearance of metallic objects. Less is more, so start with shorter runtimes and work your way up until the smells are gone.
I understand, but don't take my word for it. https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-qu...r-cleaners

These work but I have found BioBombs / Chlorine Dioxide much more effective.

I bought one in the last deal to treat a car that had long term wet carpet floor. I did an hour one day, another 30 minutes the following day. Each day the windows were closed for a few hours before airing out. The car's blower was running during the first day's hour run to circulate air through the HVAC system. After both treatments, the odor was reduced by half to two-thirds, not sure. The owner of the car didn't take my offer to run it again. The carpet had been dry for a few month before this, but was never washed before the ozone treatment. I should/need to be washed but owner didn't want it done.

My ozone generator output had a burn odor when new. I didn't know if that's normal since I've never had one. But I think a lot of the burn smell stopped during the first run. I took a very small sniff, maybe a quarter of a normal breath, on first power on and the smell was very noticeable. I didn't do much testing on this since I didn't want to breath more of this in. If I recall even the first tiny breath might have caused a little irritation in my lung for a short time. I suggest before first use run it outdoors for a while if possible in case yours do the same.

I read somewhere it can if run too much, but there's probably very low to no risk for the average application. These are used often, including some car dealers in used cars.

I guess I didn't know these were being sold as air pollution eliminators. Maybe it's just my age, but I hadn't heard of that. They've typically been sold in the past as odor eliminators, particularly useful for tobacco smoke smell, but also reasonable for eliminating odors that have become incorporated into cloth that is hard or cumbersome to machine wash.
Thanks for posting that article from the EPA.
