4.6g of salt is about the size of a nickel. I think there's more salt in a bucket of popcorn or on a good seasoned steak!

That's why steaks should be an occasional delicacy and not a daily staple lol. I eat about a seasoned steaks worth of salt in a week. I even eat uncured ham and bacon. You get used to it.

I don't disagree, but I was replying to someone who inferred 5g of salt would kill you and pointing out that many things we all eat now and then have that much salt and we don't die from it.

These are convenient for protein in backpacking meals. Good cubed up with instant potatoes, rice, etc. Heck I've eaten them as is out of the package.

Almost got me, thought was 12 cans. Spam used to be poor people food made with unwanted left over meats and bones. I must be poorer than poor to not be able to afford Spam. We are entering the hyper inflation phase i.e. late Rome period before the great collapse.

People with normal blood pressure don't need to worry about sodium at all. Your body passes what you don't need. Not sure why the US is so uptight about sodium.

Much better option than sardines in my opinion.

FYI "uncured" products usually contain MORE nitrites than their traditional counterparts. Celery powder/juice is added to cure the meat which breaks down into nitrite. "Uncured" is a marketing gimmick that just means the manufacturer didn't specifically add "nitrites" but in order to actually cure the meat so it doesn't kill you with bacteria they add things that will break down into nitrites indirectly.

I love Spam but I can regularly get a can at Walmart for $3.50 or less. And a can has six servings It almost makes more sense to buy a can and throw away what you don't eat.
Don't throw it away - freeze it! Slice the remaining Spam.
  1. Wrap each piece individually in plastic wrap
  2. Place the slices in a zip-lock freezer bag
  3. Squeeze the air out
  4. Store it in the freezer
It's good frozen for 3-6 months.
