This seems like the DeWalt cutoff tool I just bought except it comes with a little plastic kit & seems like it lacks the ability to have larger/more powerful batteries (looks like it comes with 12V@2A). Could be nice for small-scale crafting or if you have zero space? But my cutoff tool doesn't take up much space, it's literally hanging on a hook.

Look I'm trying here

I'm trying to figure out who this is for. It seems like a very specific tool with very limited capabilities, but then it's marketed for DIYers. A DIY tool needs to offer much broader capabilities since it's unlikely a DIYer is going to be buying a specific tool for each project. A circular saw with a Kreg crosscut jig would provide way better flexibility since it works with any circular saw and you don't have to buy into a new battery system.

I bought this last summer for some baseboard work. I opted this route as I didn't have a lot of room for a table saw. I placed this on my truck's tailgate with a nearby sawhorse and went to town. I think this is a good option for small projects around the house and craft work -- anything else, go another route.

The purpose of this tool is is that it is small and packable and hides away. It's good for small arts and crafts like small boxes, trim, shevles and picture frames which is something my sister is interested in. She finds big saws scary. I'm tempted to get one for her but there are none available in my area. Yes it's pretty limited , you can't even cut a 2x4 in one pass. The battery system is the same as Bosch 12v as Dremel is owned by bosch so it's not really a one off system.

I've got a circular saw but that's too rough to do miter cuts on things like baseboards and trim. I also have a miter jig and manual saw, but that's a pain in the butt. I had this on my radar already but will be headed to Home Depot to pick one up today as we're remodeling the wife's condo and will be needing to cut new baseboards for a few rooms.

Can this cut flat steel stock, say 1/8" - 1/4" thick? Have various projects that would benefit from the precision of this system, but not worth the hassle of a full miter saw, and too awkward to use an angle grinder.

Hey I bought this right when it came out because I love the design of the set up. The kit really does contain itself well and stores great and is intuitive to set up. Everything clicks into place and operates just as it should, albeit a bit flimsy in places.

Now for the bad part.

This thing is frankly useless. It cuts accurately and is kinda fun to use, but it has tearout/blowout on every cut. It can't cut much, so you're limited to what you can cut (duh) so you'd think "oh this things super great for hardy board and quarter round" nope. "oh just buy a better blade, it's your fault probably" tried that. It takes toe kick saw blades and I got marginally better results.
Dust collection is OK but it's easier and faster to just make a mess in the box and suck it out with a vac.
You can mitigate SOME of the tear out with tape, but the kerf is like too wide for the speed/strength of the tool. It's not good at anything except the miters. I like the miter set up a lot so I have found some uses for it.

It's a great tool to teach someone who is beginning to use tools as all the cutting can be done hands "free of danger" with the clamps.

If they were to scale this up to a 7 1/4 saw it would be so cool lol. Radial arm/track saw locker system lol. Man can dream!

I tried it, and dont recommend it. The blade options are very sparse, the speed is not great so it scores wood on the other side as it cuts, and it doesnt cut deep enough. People are better off buying a 6.5" portable saw with a guide which is FAR better.

Originally I bought this to cut slatted wood panels for walls that have felt fabric backing for noise. Dremel's saw could not cleanly cut it. Again this thing is very limited in use and costs too much compared to portable saws.
