why not both? After watching for years, each cut has their own merits.

Tempted to get but my local library has multiple copies so it's always available for check-out.

This has been at this price a few weeks now for some reason. When I mentioned it in another LOTR/hobbit post I got a TD for some reason, but I have a TU for you

I have the 2010 box set version that suffers from color timing issues-these are a new scan/mastering with an Atmos audio upgrade, but do not include the bonus DVD content from the older release. Instabuy!

Unfortunately the 4k releases are just upscales that have noise reduction, filtering and edge enhancement applied in order to make them "better" for a 4k TV, but they're overprocessed. Ironically the blu-ray versions are the most correct release, and cheaper also. The only real improvement is the HDR, which isn't worth what in total amounts to a net minus.

Because the extended edition in unbearably long and tedious. It's the reason I don't watch it.
You want the whole story? Read the book, I did 3x, it's 100x better than the movie. Those extra scenes in the movie ad absolutely nothing just stretch out the runtime.
As a movie, regular version is as good as it gets (for a movie)
