I've used this router for the last 3 years, its been pretty solid. Still not bad for for being old.

I cant for the life of me make VPN work to remotely access my home network on this thing. They also want a subscription for "security" features. Otherwise decent wifi

RAX43v2 is apparently still supported: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax43v2
But RAX43 (v1?) is EOL/no more firmware updates or support: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax43

No idea which version will be received if ordered. Only way to know for sure is to check the bottom/back of the device (where specific version number details should be printed) to verify. Good luck!

I used to have this years ago, recently received an "End of Life" email for it, firmware will have zero updates.

I have this setup on AP mode as a WiFi extender and only have the PlayStation Portal connected to it to give me a super hiccup free minimal lag experience.

Most devices are on wifi6 so upgrading from this might not make any difference, so not exactly old as far as the standards.

Avoid this. Don't buy routers that are EOL and don't have third party firmware support.
