Step two: Get a decent sdcard. Don't go too crazy on speeds or anything the device doesn't support it. A budget PNY 128gb for like $14 is fine. You want decent write speeds to put stuff on the drive from your PC if you have a ton.
Step three: Format to Fat32 cluster 32kb (what the device likes). Don't do it with Windows default format. SD Formatter, Rufus or the Spruce all in one installer.
Step four: Get Spruce OS. Out of beta and really, really good for this device.
You can figure out the rest.
As far as the hinge goes.... Could be the plastic types for the moldings. Can also loosen the hinge screws a bit. Even add a copper shim to the bottom to help the device not get as warm which can also weaken the plastics.
