Most USB sticks are flat out garbage. There are a few "SSD" sticks that are a bit more expensive like the Transcend ESD330, which are speedy if you don't write a ton at a time. Even "SSD" sticks have a certain amount of pSLC allocated before they run out and have to write slowly. Read performance remains speedy though.

This issue isn't unique to Samsung drives, though it does seem pretty consistent and severe with them. It's why I won't recommend them. On the plus side, I have yet to detect any actual corruption on these drives. I can't say the same about Team Group's flash drives. Theirs are perfectly happy to return corrupt data.
For $25 why not as the cost has more than doubled.
These are so tiny that they are perfect for mobile device use. My use case was filling them with movies and using the rich interface app, Infuse, on my iPad Pro to view the media when traveling.

$25 on Woot! is a great deal by today's standards.
