My family travels a lot and we were nearly exclusive to Southwest before the policy changes. Now we avoid it whenever possible.

For all the pros and cons of old Southwest versus its competitors (more expensive than budget airlines, lower frills than big airlines, etc), the relative lack of mental hassle in booking a Southwest fare made it (usually) a no-brainer. We took a lot of trips we might not have taken just because the refund policy made us less hesitant to book travel. Now it's a tweener—all of the hassle of its competitors, but not as cheap as a budget airline or as nice / flexible as a big carrier. Why bother?

same as comment above, live in Southwest hub, use to fly decently often, now we avoid it whenever. They really got rid of all the reasons one would want to fly it

Southwest isn't even Southwest, it's Elliott Capital walking around like Vincent D'onofrio in Men In Black.

"SUGAR! I mean...seat and bag fees!"

This. No need to pack light, tons of room in the overhead, everyone sits together unless we were really slow to check in. It was simple, pretty egalitarian, and reliable.

If they're able to keep up their industry leading gate turnaround efficiency and on-time percentage with assigned seats and all these ad hoc perks, I'll be shocked.

Is the companion pass a 1 time use during the time period or use as many times as you want during that time block? Like the old way.
as many times as you like. Last time I did this, we went to New Orleans, Denver, Albuquerque, Savannah and Cincinnati (it was our excuse to visit friends and family)

Won't apply if you already have a ticket? I have a one way ticket on both of our names and we're flying in two weeks. Anyway to make it work?
Would like to know this as well but I'm guessing not.

Of like to know as well. I'll look into it when I get home, but I'm assuming not and till have to cancel and rebook. In my case, I got a pretty decent fare when I originally booked so probably won't be worth it for me.

You will have to cancel and then rebook after clicking on the promotion to claim it. I did this at the end of 2025 to claim the promo companion pass.

We are already traveling during this period .... and using the promotional companion pass offered last year (good through March 6).If I cancel my current companion ticket and then cancel my wife's ticket... then rebook my wife's current ticket (no increase of fare at this moment) .... then re-add myself as her companion .... will we then qualify for this new promotion and get another companion pass for the end of summer? I think so, but has anyone double-dipped like this and it worked out?
If I'm understanding correctly then your wife would qualify for a companion pass if she does the roundtrip travel but you would not get one since you are traveling as the companion and not purchasing tickets to qualify. But she would have to cancel and rebook tickets during the promotional period after opting in to the promotion.

check the fares. I did, and the price for one of my tickets went up slightly and the other went down slightly. So I re-booked for no additional cost.

When booking, you can see how many seats are already booked.

On our outbound flight, we booked "basic" because the back of the plane is empty and we stand of good chance of sitting together. . On our return, we booked "choice" and chose our seats because they had a lot of window and aisle seats already taken and it looked like we would wind up each getting middle seats.

Real, airline now. No status you pay for seat and luggage. Free wheel chairs over for everyone that can walk up ramp over. You got status because you spend $10k a year be happy you're not sitting with the free loaders.
A preferred earned by flying, free drinks and luggage free.
