Not a dumb question at all. It's a reasonable question. Yes, this will work with pretty much any modern PC that has an available NVMe slot. Primary reason this is branded for PS5 is because NVMe's come in various speeds (and for most "general" PC use, the speed is not as big of a factor). But PS5 REQUIRES higher speed NVMe SSD's, so that is why this one is marketed and branded as being compatible for PS5. Hope that helps.

It has a large heatsink, so will actually not fit in a lot of devices. A desktop computer with clearance above the NVMe slot would likely not have an issue (some motherboards may have their own heatsinks or stuff in the way, so YMMV), but with mini pcs, laptops, etc., it very well could not fit with the heatsink. Removing the heatsink is possible but may void the warranty and could result in damage if you're not careful or don't know what you're doing.

Thank you ! I don't have an enclosure yet . Was thinking about purchasing this and an enclosure
Adding an enclosure to my nvme's was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Transferring at 3000MB/s has been quite fun when I need to move things from my mac to the drive. Moving files from sd card to nvme is still limited to the speed of the card but I at least know it's going to be as fast as possible

Thank you. I can purchase this but I don't think I need it. I just need storage, no real speed needed. I see I can get a wd external 6tb for less than. I think that's the way to go for me

Dumb question, does it work in a PC? What's different about PS5 NVME?
WD_BLACK SN850X with heatsink and PS5 branding is my understanding. It will work in a PC just fine.

How good of a deal is this? Quick search shows other 2tb we black nvme drives are over $330 . Will this be decent for computer storage , files /photos with an appropriate nvme enclosure ?
It's still twice the price it should be, but if you need one now, it's the best price you will see.

If speed is not important just get an External Hard drive. Totally different needs. Both options have various advantages between SSD and Hard drive. A few months ago you could get a 8 TB SSD for 500 which might be the best of both worlds, but it really depends on the use case.

Basically everyone is buying up the market after certain firms bought what 40% of the market.

I thought this was for a PS5, which would finally be a decent deal. For an SSD? Pass

I got a 2tb SSD last year to upgrade my secondary drive I keep movies and games on. I haven't installed it yet and it's already worth at least $100 more than I paid for it. First time I ever had tech appreciate in value, instead of depreciate.

heads up. these things come with a built in heat sink that you cannot remove. not a problem for pc usage but many motherboards now have heat sinks in the mobo. you'll have to remove those to use this
You can remove the heatsink with just a couple tools (utility knife, screwdriver, isopropyl alcohol). It takes some time, prob at least an hour for someone that has not done it before, but completely doable if you need one without a heatsink. There are quite a few tutorials on the interwebs. At this price it might still be worth even if use case requires one without heatsink.

I saw some people snap theirs in half trying to do it, but I'm sure if you're patient and careful its doable.
