I can't tell if this is the one with the carbon fiber shaft or not, but I have that one and love it. I did have a problem with the trigger fairly early on and had to get it serviced under warranty. That took FOREVER, but I think it was less Ryobi's fault and more the fault of the authorized repair center here. Keep that in mind though that the warranty process may not be great depending on your local repair shop. Since getting it back though it has been flawless. I can edge my driveway and street, weed whack around trees and landscaping and put the same 6ah battery in my blower afterwards without running out of charge.
Balance of bar to not have trigger fatigue takes a bit of getting used to.
5'8" no bana for scale
Just picked up the 40v a month ago can't comment on it yet as I have two feet of snow on the ground, but hoping it can replace my gas one.
This is OOS in the bay area.

It's great. It accepts larger string (I use .095 in this) just like the older Ryobi I had (the string it comes with is useless IMO), has a nice large cutting swath, and is well-balanced to hold. The variable trigger is a must-have and makes trimming much less annoying. The very cheap trimmers are either on or off, which means they kick stuff at your legs and everywhere else at max velocity all the time for no reason. Using this is like having a scalpel vs using a sledgehammer.
I can do my suburban corner property easily on one 4ah battery and this is much quieter than my previous model. The trigger is slightly different and I like it a little less than the previous model with the plastic paddles for a trigger. My only real complaint is the spin up time for any trigger press is rather delayed vs my previous model. That takes some getting used to and is something worth testing for yourself.
Other than that, buy it.
The leaf blower I got to replace my older one is better in every way and DEFINITELY worth the cost when caught on an SD. I liked my old one but the replacement Whisper model is SO much quieter with no discernable airflow difference. If anything, the new one is more powerful. It's black (green?) magic.
