EDIT: Ahhhh this post was before I realized I misread that this is the 18v and not the 40v that I have. Oops. Instead of taking this as endorsement for loving the product, take this as a warning about their warranty repair process 😀
I can't tell if this is the one with the carbon fiber shaft or not, but I have that one and love it. I did have a problem with the trigger fairly early on and had to get it serviced under warranty. That took FOREVER, but I think it was less Ryobi's fault and more the fault of the authorized repair center here. Keep that in mind though that the warranty process may not be great depending on your local repair shop. Since getting it back though it has been flawless. I can edge my driveway and street, weed whack around trees and landscaping and put the same 6ah battery in my blower afterwards without running out of charge.

Great trimmer! Highly recommend at this price. Very quiet, versatile, and line advancement. Lovee the reach I can get into beds with this. Saved me from getting poison ivy last year

Balance of bar to not have trigger fatigue takes a bit of getting used to.

5'8" no bana for scale

I have an 18v and works fine for my edging and light quick grass work. I also have a gas one for heavy overgrown areas where I don't clear weekly and where the 18v doesn't have enough power to get through. But last year I used the 18v way more than the gas one because of the weight difference.
Just picked up the 40v a month ago can't comment on it yet as I have two feet of snow on the ground, but hoping it can replace my gas one.

it really depends on what ecosystem you are in, or want to get in. I have this exact one, and with a 8ah battery I can trim my whole front and side yard. It works as good, if not better than my old 25cc gas trimmer.
This is OOS in the bay area.

Nope, none, though seeing this comment made me re-read my comment and then realize that this post is for the 18V version while I have the 40V version. Oops

Exactly what I was interested in. I got a 20v (I think) Hart string trimmer and it is a toy. I wanted to avoid the stink of the gas but the power was not even close. I'd have returned it if it wasn't some deep clearance.
