Thread Details
Grubhub has announced it will remove service and delivery fees on delivery orders of $50+ before taxes. This is meant to be a long-term policy and not a short-term promo. No promo code needed.
From a news article...
" Grubhub announced it will remove delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50.
The change debuted in Grubhub's first-ever Big Game commercial starring George Clooney.
Big Game and winter deals from major chains will stack on top of the no-fee benefit.
If you're anything like me, ordering delivery goes something like this: you build the perfect cart, maybe even convince yourself to add a little extra so you hit minimums... and then you get to checkout and suddenly the fees show up, and you need to renegotiate with yourself (and the order) in real time. Do you really need fries, Sean? When did I even add that dessert? Why is delivery suddenly another entree?
Grubhub seems to know that exact pain point, because during this year's Super Bowl, the delivery platform is making a pretty bold promise: it's going to eat the delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50.
No, not a promo code. Not a one-week special. Not a "new users only" situation. According to the company, this is meant to be a long-term benefit built into how Grubhub works moving forward.
"For too long, ordering delivery has come with sticker shock. Today, we're changing that by fundamentally rethinking how delivery pricing works and putting hundreds of millions of dollars back into customers' pockets," said Howard Migdal, CEO of Grubhub. "'Grubhub Will Eat the Fees' reflects our vision for a more affordable, sustainable delivery ecosystem— and our commitment to delivering real value to customers every day."
And honestly, it makes sense. Fees can easily tack on another $10 to $15 to a bigger order, which adds up fast for families, friend groups, or single people like myself ordering weekly. Removing them suddenly makes things feel a lot less painful at checkout."
Along with this, I've noticed that Grubhub has a nice section of $20 off $50 in my app. YMMV.
