I did piss and moan a little after purchase (out of principle mainly), Acer ended up refunding $40 being they did tell me the wrong thing, they clearly didn't want to do a return either. First few messages from them were AI nonsense or just random copy / pastes.
Testing against my old Lenovo Flex 5 8845HS with 16GB of ram; This Acer is about twice as fast in a few games (for example Far Cry 5 gets double the FPS) and Switch emulation is much stronger. Now never drops below 60 FPS where the 8845HS stayed there....most of the time.
Screen is pretty lackluster in terms of color against my old non-OLED Flex 5 (comparable to my work Dell Latitude 5440). Plenty bright, speakers MUCH LOUDER. Lenovo was super quiet. No SD or micro SD card slot though. Acer also has a lot of annoying stuff installed like AdobeOP which keeps bothering me buy something but I cannot figure out how to remove it (without simply removing the exe that is starting). msconfig nor start up (in task manager) appear to be pointing to it and no Adobe items are in Add / Remove Programs.
Laptop arrived brand new appearing, plain box, and charger, nothing more.

How much did you pay in that deal to get this laptop? Do you have any other complaints about its quality or otherwise, and do you think this current price is a good deal for this laptop?

The laptop is fantastic. Only thing is the screen isn't great but honestly I'd rather a mid screen and a great machine vs a mid machine with a great screen. The lack of an SD slot is annoying too since I am always messing with retro handhelds, loading roms, etc, but I always have a hub with me so it isn't an end of the world type thing.
Unless that was somehow impossible... In that case I'd be very sad.

What do you do on your laptop that makes this display unacceptable? Watching videos and/or gaming? I would be using it just for 'work' and personal use, like internet browsing and reading, Word and Excel, very occasional YouTube, etc. For day to day stuff would you consider it alright or is it just that bad?
I'd argue that as long as the system is good enough for YouTube and ten browser tabs, then the next most important thing is the screen, then keyboard and trackpad, then sound. These are the human interface points on a computer. Way more important than if the occasional intensive task completes in 2 seconds or 4 seconds.

FWIW, I've been mostly running the laptop on the middle setting (balanced) of the AcerSense power options, there is also "quiet" and "performance."
I will say though, the laptop does have a little lip running across the entire bottom, tilting it backwards every so slightly so the bottom does not lay flat against surfaces. My Lenovo 2-in-1 would sit flush against a table to the point (in my mind) could block the fan's inlet air. On a bed it would actually get alarmingly hot unless I had something under the laptop. (not blaming the laptop) The Acer gets better airflow just because of that lip so may help with temps / fan noise.
this image (not mine) perhaps will illustrate what I am talking about

Bear in mind that many of the most beloved Thinkpads did (and do) have horrendous, truly bad screens. Smearing, low brightness, not laminated so you see a big ass gap under the screen etc.
I think build quality is most important...you touch the laptop Everytime you interact with it, and if you got keyboard flex, or the screen hinges feel squeaky, or if it doesn't open and close with one finger, you hate it every single second...and even connecting it to an external monitor doesn't fix those.
That being said...one thing this laptop does do very well is compare well against all of the Mini PC deals where people are nitpicking over 16 gigs of memory, 2020 CPUs, etc. you could leave this machine in a corner docked and get all of the fixins (minus oculink)...and (less subpar) support than the Chinese OEMs...and 2 year warranty.

"colors are visibly dull; in our tests, the Aspire 14 AI could only reproduce 57.9% of the sRGB color gamut, while coverage of the Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 gamuts was stuck at the 40 to 41% mark." (From one review)
