The best way to keep squirrels off your bird feeder is to feed them. The next thing I know I have bluejays, scrubjays, northern flickers, crows, and magpies coming to visit. They all love peanuts in the shell.
Not as long as there's food in the squirrel feeder. That's the only thing that keeps squirrels off my bird feeder. Otherwise they hang upside down on the bird feeder and eat all the seeds.
