Does everyone dislike the numpad? It's useful.
For me, it's mostly about ergonomics. A full-size keyboard pushes the mouse farther out, which forces my arms out to the sides for hours at a time. That was leading to a lot of wrist pain for me. It was really noticeable at the gym, especially on bench, and on exercises that requiring a lot of grip, like pull-ups.

Switching to a smaller keyboard let me keep my arms in closer, reduced awkward wrist angles, and just feels way more natural overall. And it essentially eliminated my wrist pain.

Most of my day-to-day work doesn't really need a number pad anyway, and I keep a small wireless one around for the occasional times I need it.
