Community Reviews

This DEWALT 12 volt screwdriver is a compact, light-duty tool that shines for cabinets, electrical work, and other small screw jobs where a drill driver or impact driver feels like overkill. The clutch, variable speed, and lower RPM make it easier to control torque and avoid stripping delicate screws, and the 1 quarter inch quick swap chuck keeps bit changes fast. It can still handle occasional longer screws and even some light outdoor work. The main caution is that it is not an impact driver, and some comments question whether the 12 volt line has much future support.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

This is great for light duty stuff. I grab this first for stuff around the house.

It has a much lower RPM so you're less likely to over tighten and strip small screws or delicate items. Less RPM means more control on the variable speed on the trigger as well.

Over all a great tool for assembling, disassembling, or running any screw under 3 inches. Not to mention its compact, light and has a 1/4" quick swap chuck.
The only argument is... should you invest into the DeWalt 12v line that DeWalt has mostly abandoned and has all but stated they don't plan any more tools.. that's debatable.

I would argue this and the 1/4" - 3/8" sealed head ratchet are 2 of best tools to have in this line and worth having regardless if DeWalt doesn't produce any more 12v tools...

Outside of those 2 tools... I would just stick with 20v atomic or invest in the m12.

man, I'm still using my 12V "drill" and the 12V impact driver that came with it for over a decade now, I wonder how much has changed AND if the batteries are the same.
I've owned the 'old' 12v screwdriver for like 10 years now and it is still going strong. the 12v Lithium Ion line is really solid

For $99 you can probably buy a 20V brushless drill/driver on sale

Ask yourself..... Why do they call this a screwdriver, and not an impact driver???
I have all of the 12v and I prefer them over the 20v because of the lighter size and weight.

The drill is an actual drill, heavier than the impact and screwdriver, the most powerful of the 3.

The impact is good, high speed and impacts well.

The screwdriver spins slower than the other 2, (but not too slow) and is good for everything you actually use a drill for most of the time. I find myself using it the most. It will drive 3 in screws when needed, obviously not meant for large projects but it can do it. It drills fine, kinda like running your regular drill on medium.

I love the 12v and hope DeWalt keeps them around..I've never had a 12v tool wear out, and I have an impact from 2011 or 2012.

I have this and use it for setting up Vex Robotics Competition fields. Low clutch settings are key to drive screws without damaging the fields. These are light and easy to use for teenagers.

What's the advantage in going w this if you already have a 20v impact?

I'm curious why choose this over a drill driver. Thoughts?
I use this all the time around the house. For anything small like electrical outlets, its super light and more than enough. Impact driver is overkill and drill is much larger than needed.

I even used it to install about 100' of cedar fence pickets. Drill for drilling and this to drive torx screws with the clutch set for the depth. I didn't have to charge it once on a 3Ah battery, wild.

This is a screwdriver, NOT an impact driver.
This 12v screwdriver is smaller, lighter, and has a clutch. The 20v impact driver has an impact hammer and no clutch.
A screwdriver with a clutch is better than an impact for some jobs like HVAC, electrical, cabinet and furniture assembly.

They call this a screwdriver, and not an impact driver because this is a screwdriver, and NOT an impact driver.

An impact driver has an impact function with an internal hammer and anvil to achieve MORE torque.
This screwdriver has a clutch with 15 settings to allow for LESS torque at variable settings.
