FYI, Sonicare gimped the vibration motor on the 4100 a few years ago. If you're replacing an older 4100, you'll probably notice a difference

If you look on YouTube you can find videos of people replacing the batteries in the 4100. It takes a standard 18650 cell on the inside.

My old one lasted 7 years and was still going. It was still fine but the battery was getting weak, too bad they aren't replaceable. I decided to try one of the Oral-B IO brushes because there were always people saying they were great. Big mistake and by the time I realized I hated it, it was too late to return it. Now I want to get another 4100 and when I look at the recent reviews it seems enshittification has hit hard. Can't rely on any brand or model these days😭

This uses much less battery than the iO 8 I got for $110 (with $100 Amazon card opening bonus). It's much less flashy and doesn't put a smiley on a display, but you just want it to brush your teeth, right?

I decided to try one of the Oral-B IO brushes because there were always people saying they were great. Big mistake and by the time I realized I hated it, it was too late to return it. Now I want to get another 4100 and when I look at the recent reviews it seems enshittification has hit hard. Can't rely on any brand or model these days😭

Pre-enshittified 4100 were "Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush" , model number HX6811/01. Look for ProtectiveClean on the box. You could still get some at Best Buy up until last year. Once in a while there'll be new ones that pop up on eBay.

I believe the better motor \ build quality start with the 5100. Philips redesigned the 4100 and secretly started selling the garbage replacement under the same name.

After I bought the 5100 my dentist told me I should have gone Oral B anyways. Given that and Philips shady redesign, I would just go Oral B next time.

There nothing wrong with this model. I've had it for a year. It's in the charger nightly so I've not tested the battery life fully but had no issues when charging daily. As far as the vibration mechanism, I've never had it off the low setting except maybe twice and it's rough on your gums on high so defeats the purpose of these brushes. It's all nonsense on the internet that people love to parrot.
