Hard to justify this for the average diy'er, or an I wrong?

On mine, even the slowest speed is too fast. Of course, I do suck at caulking.

Just be careful what you use it with, I slowly advanced the plunger and it easily wrecked a tube of silicone adhesive and I spent a long time removing bits of adhesive from the body of this thing. It's strong but just not for all tubes apparently.

Maybe. I'd say I'm pretty average, and my utility with a regular caulking gun is miserable. I'm terrible at using a constant squeezing pressure, so the result is a line that looks like a 2D Mario Bros level. A machine with a consistent pressure would mean I only have to focus on constant movement.

I love these guns as it saves my hands when air-sealing a large project, but is Ryobi a good brand?

I have one. I was using it to apply some silicone caulk, and I guess it was too thick because the plunger popped through the bottom of the tube. It's been coated in cured silicone ever since. I need to flense it off one of these days.

Same thing happened to me. The plunger is still coated in cured silicone.

It depends on what you're DIY'ing. Don't get this to caulk a sink. I bought this when sealing a ~12ft crack in the basement and it was an awesome tool for the job (I think we went through about 12 tubes of various types of goop). Was also great when I did about 20ft of roof work - was great to reseal shingles with that nasty tar-like goop. Also very good for tubes of liquid nails for random projects. But it's not for small jobs like a sink. Maybe a bathtub. Maybe. But practice first.

I own this version but have only used it a couple times. A bit heavy but works great. I found that this is way easier to lay a consistent bead vs my traditional manual gun. I like that the flow stops as soon as the trigger is released. Not sure what i paid, but i dont love caulking as a task and imo the convenience and ease of use is worth even the original cost.
If i was a using this daily or had a project that required extensive overhead work, I would look into other options that are lighter weight like the Milwaukee m12. But at this cost for most homeowner jobs, this is great.

I've been wanting one of these for while...but I can't remember the last time I've used a caulk gun...is it because I don't have one of these that I stay away from caulking, or I don't have of these because I don't use caulk?
