Petg has negatives as well...
It needs to be dried out to print properly if you're in a damp or humid environment.
It tends to string a little bit more than PLA.
It tends to be more shiny, and some of the Matte PETGs are not as strong.
You have to print it at slower speeds.
PETG is probably superior if none of the issues are a deal breaker for your current printing project.

Again, I'm new to the 3D printing world, it seems that most general use 'projects' use PLA or PETG - is that fairly accurate? I have been using PLA since I started and am looking to expand my materials with these bulk spool buys. I recently bought a spool of TPU 95A and some glow filament as well.

Just switch to petg for all general use things....pla is so weak and brittle, petg much stronger and weather resistant
Thanks - that is helpful. I was looking at PETG (if for anything) seems to have higher temp tolerance (not quite ABS).

Why the 2 thumbs down on switching to PETG?

Cool! Great deal. Came to ~$90 after taxes & fees.

What makes it even sweeter is the cashback from the purple-colored site.

PLA+ prints as nice as PLA and still pretty durable, usually doesn't cost much more. PETG is useful for a lot of things but PLA+ works pretty well too.

These silk filaments are nice and decorative but they tend to be very weak. So I wouldn't recommend them for things which need more strength / durability.

Wish I had picked this up 2 weeks ago. Just finished printing what felt like 50 dragon models for the kid's valentine's gifts.

I could print so many trinkets! And this is quite cheap.

I prefer PETG but i can be harder to work with. your printer (some just don't do a good job with it) and your filament maintenance matter the most.

I use PETG when using it for more durable projects and it is a much stronger, stable, superior plastic. PLA for fun trinkets, and honestly PLA is the best all-round filament
