I can get $800 for an old Samsung s8+ but it doesn't have a power button which fell off. Should I buy a replacement button before attempting trade in? It powers on but I have to use a pin to do it
I'd trade that in at a T-Mobile store (when the phone is fully charged and powered on) instead of shipping it back to T-Mobile. You have 30 days to give them back the phone you're trading in... if the store says no, then you can buy a new button and either go back to the store or ship it back.

If you want a 10 Pro and you only have one line, wouldn't it be cheaper to just go with Google Fi?

If 6 lines are eligible for upgrade then sure!
It's a subtle difference. They were saying that each line is eligible but there is only 1 redemption per account. I don't know if that's really the case or whether there are six redemptions, one redemption for each line

First call to Costco was rejected with the "cannot waive $35 and cannot give $100 GC with this promo".Second call about an hour later was smooth, had 4 lines upgraded shipped to two different addresses. One shipping address was to a state which does not charge tax on the full amount so no cost on that. The other shipment was charged tax (CA).
This is what I'm trying to figure out. I have six lines on the plan. They said each line is eligible. However, they were implying that there is only one redemption per account. Once I trade in one phone, then no one else can do it on the account. You are saying that you have multiple lines on your account. How did you find out that you can do multiple redemptions, one for each line? I went to a store and I called 611 customer support, neither told me with confidence that I could have six redemptions for the account, one for each line.

Do you jump around every year or two? I've been with T-mobile for 20+ years. Not because I'm loyal to them, but because I have so many grandfathered deals that keep them VERY competitive against their newer plans or other carriers.
Not everyone has a grandfathered plan. Personally I just avoid major carrier financing deals, since most of the time they aren't worth it unless you have multiple lines. I snagged a Pixel 9 with a full year of Mint Unlimited for less than $420 after tax and fees last Black Friday. That's the sort of deal worth waiting for imo. After the year is up, I'll see what else is available or just switch to whichever decent carrier is offering a good deal on coverage.

If I have 6 lines under the qualifying plan, can I trade in 6 phones or only do it once? They told me each line is eligible but they were not sure about whether the other 5 lines could do it if the first line took advantage of the offer.
Only 4. T-Mobile only allows max 4 identical promotion (based on the ID promo) on account.

I don't think so. The promotion is for Any device. I ordered with a old Motorola phone with broken screen, the promotion credit confirmation showed $799. Just to be sure you have promotion ID R499
Even tho it says that. Later in the promps it does say that actual trade in value will be decided after the trade in is received.

I initially tried to do the upgrade on the T-Life app.
The 2nd agent managed to do two separate transactions and confirmed on that all 4 lines are eligibile.
I have 7 lines on my account. When I try to upgrade another line, the promo is no longer showing up.

Which promotion was it called in T-life?With my simple choice plan, when I shop for phones in T-life, the only "on most plans" and non-new-line promo is "Get up to $500 off with trade on most plans".
Go to tlife. Manage account. Pick a line. Choose upgrade.

I couldn't tell if you ultimately ended up doing it on the phone or via the app only. Are you saying you did it via the app once and checked out and completed the process and then started again and did it another time on the app? Or were you on the phone the whole time and the agent processed it through once, then processed it through again meaning you didn't end up using the app at the end?
