Attached are GeekBench scores that I ran on the phones I have/had. The 2024 Moto G Stylus has similar scores to the Samsung A54 5G. The 2025 Moto G Stylus has a faster process than the 2024 version, so it should be faster than the A54. I ordered the 2025 Stylus this morning. I will run GeekBench on it when I receive it, and post the scores.

Unfortunately, after Verizon has been relieved of its boundation to unlock devices within 60 days on Jan 20 2026, this is the easiest and cheapest way to buy a new device with decent specs that gets auto unlock (albeit after 365 days) without paying anything extra after the initial activation. From the carrier perspective it makes little sense selling the devices at steep discount without even breaking-even by making the customer pay the overly inflated telecom service, so its kind of a stretch expecting them to easily unlock the devices (within a short period of time like 60 days).
Having said that, this is slickdeals Smilie and here, one expects to get the best possible 'bang for the buck' on a given day, hence the deal. Happy to be corrected.

Would love to get this but waiting a year for unlock sucks, that is an unreasonably long wait time 😞 They really should change unlock policy back to 60 days (or less).

Thanks OP. ordered one.

my first phone with metro was a moto with immediate unlock code from an ebay seller. that option gone.
second phone was S23FE unlocked after 60 days for $150. this is gone too!
Now this one with 365 days... wondering what policy next 🤔. worth a try for $55 I reckon.

If it unlocks they can change policy by then to active service only like every other provider now.
They can't unless they back-date their policy. Their policy, dated August 11, 2025, (https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy) says:

"We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

It goes by the activation date

Cricket needs 6 months of paid service, isn't it? If you factor that in, the price will be whole lot different.
I believe so, but one can drop down to their $30 plan to save. They do offer a $15. month talk and text plan for 3 months at $45. total so that's an option if you don't want to use the phone. iPhones are always in big demand used or new.

Thanks OP, wanted one at this price for WiFi only things. In for one.

We just stop paying after the first month is it?

And I'm hoping to unlock to boot loader for an alternate OS, carrier lock doesn't matter. Will I be able to immediately?
Yea, you can stop paying after first month and use it as a wifi device. These variant's bootloader should be unlockable ( I think you have to request code from motorola) since it has Universal software channel. The verizon/tracfone variant's bootloaders are locked.

Even with $30 for additional 5 months ... it's going to be $150+tax extra.
Besides, from what I have heard/found online and other discussions is that in terms of being shady and notorious, ATnT/Cricket are so bad that they make Verizon and MNVOs look like 'good guys' Big Grin. No first hand experience, though.

If I already have metro and create a new account to get this offer. After the first month and account is closed can I add this phone to my existing account or do I need to wait the year to do it?

What's the out the door cost? I assume it's not worth porting your number over for a month and then back? That probably doesn't even make sense if you plan on continuing your existing service a month later.

I need a temperary phone while I send my current phone in for repairs. I was hoping this would work on the T-mobile network but alas. I don't qualify for a free advertised phone with my current plan. T-mobile wants me to make payments for two years to get a reduced price phone. Can't pay for it outright or pay it off early. It's a pain in the butt.

Please be aware I purchase one of these from Metro with the promotion and the battery life is terrible
You may have received a defective unit although I was surprised to see a few reviews on Metro site also mention that battery drains fast on this model, no idea why that is but hopefully this isn't too common. Try disabling or removing unneeded apps to see if that helps extend battery life.

I'm still on the fence about ordering. The long wait to unlock and concern about potential battery drain issues mentioned in reviews give me some pause.

ST was recently offering 2 of these units for $75 which seems to be a better offer than Metro's, at least in terms of cost per unit, but $55 for one is still a nice deal for the specs. The ST promo has already expired, however, so it's no longer an option.

I grabbed one of these in August when it was free with a $65 plan. Waiting 365 days is tough, but it's $55 for a phone that's currently on sale for $350 new. My current phone (a Motorola Edge Plus 2022) is working fine (except for the horribly buggy wireless charging that never worked well). I'm hoping my current phone can keep working until August at least. This is a bad choice for anyone that needs a unlocked phone immediately, but if you've got time to wait I don't think you can beat it.

Eh well, in for one. My 2023 is going to stop receiving updates this summer. The way I see it, I'm paying $55 for a phone that will be updated for about a year starting next year. In the meantime (and after), I'll use it as a shower TV. And it's cheaper than a dedicated tablet for Hubitat.

The site states that the $55 price includes all taxes and fees so that should be the OTD cost.

Thought it was a oled screen wtf is super HD
Yes it actually is OLED. Also the specs in OP are incorrect regarding storage capacity, it's 128gb not 256gb.
