I recently purchased and returned this pillow. It feels more like Styrofoam than memory foam. It does give a little, but it is extremely hard and way to high if you sleep on your back.

I've actually considered doing the same on our bed. I built it myself years ago abd designed it to be used without a box spring so the plywood and supports are already there. I have yet to find a mattress that is firm enough for me without spending thousands of dollars. I'm finally at a point in life where that might be more of a priority to pay for though.

That's fine. Putting a mattress on a plywood base instead of a box spring to firm it up is reasonable and actually more and more common. What isn't reasonable is a 2" topper on top of plywood. At that point you're sleeping on the ground. That's not thick enough to provide any sort of cushion. Might as well just throw a blanket down on the floor at that point and sleep on that.

Except that isn't at all the same thing haha. I think I would have to go with a high density memory foam and maybe 3+" thickness but I would 100% sleep on a 2" topper on plywood before throwing a blanket on the floor. That's a bit of an exaggerated comparison lol
