So, there's nothing wrong with it (minus Katana's many effects), and this combo amp is a special, personal preference there; but it is a good non-tube amp (which is fine as it can sound like tubes) made to control like a classic tube CIRCUIT(s), plus more multi amp circuit types (using COSM non-tube methods, which is fine). So, IMHO you might as well get a Katana (100 series) instead. A Katana is a more straight forward way of picking even more total "tone" types and effects, such as matching or exploring more various guitar parts "tones" in your songs and solos. Whatever control you like.
Summary: If you want less options overall, like just it's reverb effects, and control (by power tube labels, etc..) in this manner, for this price then fine business.
Nextone and a good multi FX+ unit could also work. Or if you are a pedal board person(so whatever); but I think a multi pedal is a far better option, IMHO.
Optionally of course, to just getting a Katana 100 something instead, then you could also (double redundancy) get a classic tube combo instead and add to it whatever multi-effects (and more) pedal/device to mate with your classic combo as well. Tubes and non-tube mixed and for backup. New tube combo (if waiting for a yearly $200 sale hour) tube, or even some solid classic non-tube combo and a separate mutil FX+ unit (plugged in rather than modding combos/heads) for less than a NEW Katana 100. But maybe not less than a deep discount used Katana 100 type, if you prefer. Hold out for low used price and if getting a classic tube amp (new sale or used deal) the reason today for classic tubes is not because they are better or worse than non-tube amps; but a different set of pros and cons to service and just to experience the original classic tone and way. Under 20W highly recommended. Probably at least 12W power tubes for including a stage (against drummer) option. So always practice to stage volume options.
Keep in mine the non-tube stuff with be a paper weight (or deeply depreciated) after about 3 years when the company then refuses to fix any failures. Where a classic tube combo (light weight about 25lbs under 20W tubes recommended) CAN be fixed; but with high voltage safety concerns. And you may be able to find affordable tube amp repairer. Pros and cons to all; but inserting new power tubes is easy should several years of hard use require it. Do not look for different tubes to effect overall "tones". Get a tube combo with good clean to distortion flexibility and add more Katana like flexibility via FX units you can plug in and trade out should they fail. If you value that option.
Consider a really low used Katana (100) combo (or head depending) price first.
And/or classic tube amp $200? and add on a FX pedal/units (including IR's, more amp types, and much more, USB in/out, noise cancel, volume, foot/hand buttons, headphones, backing input, rechargeable no power wires) starting at $40! (Cube Baby pedal, in black, TEMU, Bangoods etc..) and up, if your are trying to keep total cost down, and not fill your basement with every part ever made.
Am I saying just get a new-only Katana 100 series combo or head? No. I don't like they were busted for price fixing and still do it. So used Katana if the price is a steal is a winner IMHO. Not any used price; but a DEEP difference. And you can do both for redundancy, for more backup redundancy... Such as the used extremely low priced Katana (with some obsolescence) and also an inexpensive (usually new deal), classic, >20W tube combo, plus then add a separate tube Baby multi (about 95% of tones/effects a Katana can do anyway), or more expensive unit you may prefer. Then a Riff looper is usually separate, or less expensive separately anyway.
Note: Various effects units have a multitude of features and non-nonsensical prices to compare. There is no wrong way as there exist unlimited parts combination to get the benefits. However, price differences are huge.
Either a deeply depreciated used Katana 100 (something) and/or a <20 watts tube amp, or a >60W non-tube combo with a multi, then simply plugged in are the best bang and the lowest total bucks (slick deal) options for you. While retaining your very own, LIVE option, power amp and large magnet 12" guitar speaker(final sound tone filter) gear, to be most familiar with, for practice to stage, or anything. Without wasting funds on "practice amps" that you can otherwise build yourself with free gear, or just start with the $40 Cube Baby and headphones(or other free amp) that you may already have, for more accurate tones/effects when practicing. Practicing does not even require well matched tones; but it's nice.
I do not care if you get a Cube baby or not. It's just $40 and good for practice, performances with combos etc, and adding features to any classic type amp. I just think it is the best value, or SLICK DEAL. Yes it sounds real like tubes and it has enormous flexibility, covering almost any amp, effects, IR and song you want to match. With downloadable custom IR's; but there's no need already. The range of its amps, IR's and ease of controlling them is outstanding and simple, like classic tube amp controls(per amp type).
If this Nextone or anything was extremely less expensive (used or not) then it's great; as that changes it's total value, doesn't it? Then any cons (everything has) could be handled by add-ons and potentially still be a great value. Price changes total value. I believe Nextone is a solid build; but not so good to repair, as needed. I think there's nothing wrong with it's ability to sound like tubes; but that you judge, by ear. Not sounding like tubes has become largely a thing of the past, and even some of the first models made (rare) could sound like tube exactly. If not on every selection.
Do make sure any non-tube device that sounds like tubes is one that has ENOUGH dynamic finger variation for your picking soft to loud. Because very good there is enough, as super easy to play. I would avoid any really old non-tube gear that had zero dynamics. The Cube Baby pedal itself has good/decent playing dynamics amazingly, and so it's easy to play through. Try it for yourself. In old posts here on SD I have detailed the many amps the Cube Baby does. Amazing. Hopefully you can find my posts. There, I told the real 9 amp/combo names the Cube Baby selects. Think: Nine separate (clean to distortion progression) tube amp heads stuffed into a pedal the size of two stacked Hersey chocolate bars. With a tuner. Not just effects, and IR's.
If you are looking for the (clean to) highest or gain with distortion, then a flexible clean to gain combo, plus any good boost and distortion add-on, like a multi pedal will get you there. And you might want to start with a humbucker guitar pickup first (with some bass tone dialed), depending on your type goal. Note: The Cube Baby can add enough to a single coil to effect metal tone or subtract from a warm humbucker to effect "spank" like a single coil (if you do not have one) and do "country clean". At the flip of a tiny amp select knob that will blow you mind. Use can what you have; but I like having a humbucker pickup or mixed pickup option on the guitar and fine on-guitar tone controls.
P.S Just the add on pedal FX+, IR, Cube Baby's AMP knob's REAL AMP HEAD MODEL NAMES.
Cube Baby decoded (Here and Not in the manual, as highlighted):
Amps (VERY INTERESTING) translated: Left, clockwise to the right, on easy AMP knob.
Note the progressing clean to distortion.
The first 3 will scrub away any distortion in front of the Cube Baby. Start with #5 for pass through experiments like gain stacking.
Manual's funny name = Actual amp model highlighted
1. Power Zone Clean (channel) for surf(not surd) = Koch's Powertone!
2. US Gold 100 Clean (ch) = Friedman's BE100!
3. Two Stone Coral OD (Overdrive ch) = Clean, Two Rock's Coral!
4. Doctor 3 B (ch) = Dr. Z's MAZ38!
5. Cali JP A (channel) = Mesa Boggie (Marshall-like) JP2!
6. Day Tripper OD (Channel) = VOX's AC30!
7. Shittcow Dist (ch) = VHT's Pitbull!
8. wo Stone Coral OD (gain ch not OD) = Gain ch, Two Rock's Coral!
9. Mr Smith Dist(ch) = PRS's [a premium gain!] Archon!
Yes it chugs. The MP 15W combo + Cube Baby. I EXACTLY matched the 'SAND MAN' (Metalica) preset selection from a Headrush MX5 pedal. And left the easy tube amp knob + CubeBaby knobs position settings on Slickdels here somewhere too.
