Not too surprised. They also seem to be willing to die on the hill that Xperia will continue. Their CFO said just 3 days ago that there will be "no change in status" for the phones.

Better speakers out there, but this is a good deal. Best Buy wants $299 for one (good luck with that).

You could do worse for $320/pr. and with pandemic inflation it's a solid deal if you have a strong VISUAL preference for towers and can't spend more than $350/pr. These used to be closer to $150-200/pr when they first came out about 10 years ago. Pretty decent highs and mids but very little bass so you will need a sub for sure.
If you already have a sub and/or plan to buy one anyway, you'd be better off with a $300-350/pr of high quality bookshelf speakers instead---e.g. Emotiva XB1, Ascend 170SE, etc.

These arent bad for the price. I would ask yourself if you really WANT/NEED floor standing speakers. I had just went through downsizing phase and sold off some entry level Klipsch floor standers and they were VERY hard to get rid of locally, even selling 1/4th the price I paid for them I only had a single person respond to the ad. You'll pretty much have to give these away

Well, I think that name brand recognition of "Sony" would make resale not that hard---the consumer public are easy marks. That's why Bose gets fairly decent resale value. Has nothing to do with their actual sound quality.

Well Sony's name doesn't point to quality with speakers nowadays.

You point to one of issues imo.
This insinuation that towers are only a VISUAL benefit and or a sub negates a need for them.

Physics being what it is,ANY speaker(ie subwoofer) those extra inches does make a difference and can be well worth it ime.

The other issue, partly because of this mindset, more people are going to the modern version of Bose...... soundbars.

Many people will buy anything "Sony" because it's Sony. Doesn't matter whether it's supported by actual "quality" or not---brand perception equals reality. That's why and how advertising WORKS.

Towers are VISUAL luxuries if one has even a half decent subwoofer in play. A well-chosen $400 pair of bookshelf speakers with a $500 sub will eat any $900 pair of towers for lunch. Hell it will eat $3000/pr towers for lunch too.

People go into soundbars because they're relatively cheap, and because the audiophool world is full of pompous snobs and angry OCD nerds who are quick to tell people "just get a soundbar" if they are not eager to blow big wads of cash. Most of the time these audiophools are just stuck in a narcissistic circle jerk of advocating for the same products THEY already own. Nauseating blowhards.

I would say you need to get out more often!

$700 is relatively cheap for a soundbar!?

These are a "solid deal" at $320!?

$400 bookshelves + $500 sub produces better "quality" than a $3000 towers!!!!

Please by all means give us specific examples of all 3 of these speakers & subs!?

Pffft, that's ridiculously easy:

Ascend 170SE bookshelves ($400 shipped brand new, $300 shipped B-stock) with RSL 10s sub ($450) powered by any AVR with bass management,
would run circles around

SVS Ultra tower ($3k/pr)

YOU need to "get out more" Rob---try extracting your head from your retail-brands-only backside. 😆

LOL you're definitely going by "on paper"!!!

53hz(if you're lucky) & ask a 10" 400 watt sub to make up the difference in a large open environment!!!
Yea I'll take the Ultras in a heartbeat!

My GS20s drop that low & my SB3000R kicks the s**t out of that 10s and I still don't use/need a sub!!!
Heck my GS10s that drop to 40, even with that sub still didn't perform better!!!

That's just physics, quality comes at a price no way around that ime!
