You need to choose to activate with Verizon and open a new line. After the phone ships or picked up, you can then cancel the account. activation fee is waived if cancelled within 3 days and yo end up paying couple of dollars for couple of days of prorated usage.

If it is truly unlocked, it shouldn't be required to be activated with a particular carrier.

The $100 discount is coming from Verizon line activation from BB nothing to do with the phone

I get how to do the "unlock/cancel" but does it matter whether I pick verizon or at&t at 1st if I am not sure what network we will use the phone on (meaning...same phone right? No band difference)

I can confirm the step-by-step instructions work. I started the phone up with the SIM that shipped with it to get the number, set up an ID at Verizon, and contacted CS via chat to disconnect the line. The estimated bill I can see online has the activation fee refunded, and the $10 paperless/autopay discount looks like it will cover the 2 days service, fees and taxes.

Can someone confirm that this is working still? I'd assume it would have a higher rating if it works???Need a phone for the teen who keeps breaking his phones, but don't have the extra cash to fool around and have it not work. Anyone???
