I have two of these in my house, and they are amazing air purifiers. Replacement filters last a year or longer, but are expensive if you don't get them on sale.

Have you ever tried aftermarket filters? I'm overdue to replace my filters and tempted to get aftermarket as it's less than a 3rd of the price right now vs the genuine. I noticed on the genuine filter [amazon.com] there are a nice handful of recent reviews complaining about a weird odor.

I also have two in my house one for bedroom, one for main room and work well at circulating the air once an hour as advertised. filters are expensive. I vac the pre-filter screen but HEPA I replace twice a year. Keep in mind air sucks into both sides so there are 2x the filters to buy, they come in a pack of 2.

I have one and use aftermarket filters for some cost savings. I can say I don't notice a difference so it works for me

As everyone says, the replacement filter cost is expensive. I've bought the official filters for as low as $70, but they're as mush as $115 if not on sale. That's the cost total for the pair of filters you have to replace.

Reviews for the offbrand types tend to notice differences in weight that indicate there's less carbon in the carbon filter, or other differences

We've had an airmega 400 for about 6 years and it still works great. We also use the aftermarket replacement filters and can't tell a difference (FWIW we don't buy the cheapest and are from some "filter" company on Amz). Even if the OEM are better and have more carbon, I don't care when the non-OEM are half the cost. When I clean the filter screens, I also vacuum the outfacing part of the filter where the little bits of carbon are.

Crazy. I just looked at one of these in my local thrift shop, Saint Vincent DePaul. Brand spankin new, in box, original filters still wrapped in their plastic bags. They have a price tag on it $125. I'll take this as a sign. I should go retrieve it.

How much of a difference do these make as far as dust? I'm in a very dusty house

How often do you run them?

I have two of these 400 series (along with a Pro X and (4) 200Ms running all the time in my house (high air pollution where we live), and have no problem using non-OEM filters as replacements. They're fine. I seriously doubt that Coway makes their own HEPA filters; so they're likely sourcing them from China, too. Carbon pellets/filters don't last as long as the HEPA filters anyway, so you're only removing VOCs and smells for the first part of your filter life anyway. Like others have noted, just clean your filter screens often, vacuum or dust off the HEPA filter on the carbon side, and you'll get 9mos to a year.

I like this unit, but one thing that I realized too late... there is no child lock feature, and these buttons are at child height, and they make fun sounds turn lights on and off.

Keep in mind there are multiple versions of the Airmega that look just like this. They aren't all $650 MSRP. I have a 300 series that works well, but it looks almost the exact same as the 400.

It'd significantly reduce it, but you'll have to change the filters a lot more than the recommended amount
