FYI: These are low quality. The plastic seat coating stains easily, the hinges eventually break, and Mayfair doesn't sell replacement parts. However, Bemis (the parent company) will replace stained seats under the one-year warranty if you haven't used chemical cleaners.

It was not intended as a serious post. Yes, close the lid and do not use the air hand dryer in public restrooms. Well known hygiene etiquette!

The hinges failed on mine after a couple of years just like was mentioned in the reviews.

These are top of the line for wood seats in this price range as long as you remember they are still consumable. There are cheaper ones that are plastic-veneered particle board. The hinges last much longer if you never, ever, manually close them, but I suspect not as long as "fast slam" ones.

I used to regularly use the old $15 off $50 coupons at Lowe's to pick up a couple here and a couple there (there were multiple houses for several years.) I developed an inventory of extra bumpers and hinges, and I would spray paint them every so often. You need those extra bumpers to avoid the cracking problem. It gets old, and the pricing situation changed ...

Commercial grade plastic seats still feel like they're made of plastic. They don't quick disconnect, and they don't slow close. But they're pretty close to permanent (well, nobody in our house has tried stepping on top of one.)

The version I have has four standoffs. The back two are not long enough to reach the top of the bowl...
