I bought them, for PC use, and returned them. I found them to be muddy and boxy.

It depends on the DAC. I first used the USB-C audio adapter that came with a Google Pixel phone to connect my Mac Mini and the MR3, and they did sound muddy. I switched to a FiiO KA11 and they now sound a lot better. I don't have the R1280T, but compared to my Airpulse A80, the MR3 sounds pretty good for the price. I use them on tilted desktop speaker stands.

I'm not a music recording expert but 3.5" drivers? Just because someone calls them studio monitors doesn't mean they are actually studio monitors. Good luck hearing reasonable bass notes with these little guys. It is cute though. That's a plus.
