For someone entirely new to M12 and looking for this specific model, is this worth jumping on? HD seems to have this and a free 5.0 battery for $250 (before taxes). OR this purchase and the HD twin 5.0 twin pack for $120, (being $270 all in before taxes on the HD purchase)?

I definitely wouldn't pay $100 more to get a 5.0Ah battery. If you just want one 5.0Ah, you can pick them up at Way Source for $66[waysource.com]. Depending on your use case, you may want to also consider the CP2.5Ah HO battery. Having a compact battery contained within the handle is a nice feature.
It's a great tool, I have the first gen and now this one. Different deals pop up all of the time, I happened to catch the tool and 5.0 battery for $170 a while back at Home Depot.
Currently the best deal I'm seeing is as you mentioned the $150 stubby and 2 pack for $120.
If you want it now that's the play, if you can wait there's always a new deal a month or 3 away. Awesome tool though, you won't regret it.

$20 more for an extra 5.0 seems like a no brainer.
Just make sure they are the High Output batteries. This tool requires those to hit the advertised numbers.

If you need it now, then its definitely worth it. If not, wait until Father's day or Black Friday. They were selling the starter kit with the Tool, charger, and 5.0 Ah HO battery for $160 at HD.
That an impact driver. The current deal (3/8" Stubby) is an impact wrench. They're not the same category of tool and used for different used cases. Generally impact drivers are for installing (or removing) screws and impact wrenches are for nuts and bolts.

Don't wait too long to make up you mind one way or another. They're down to the last 29. When I posted the deal at midnight (Pacific), they had 140.

I own 2 of the 1/2 and one 3/8th. I would definitely go with the "purchase this and buy the $120 two pack at HD." These guns, depending on use, suck de juice! The 5.0s are awesome and it's worth having 2. I own 5 of the 5.0s and I've been tempted to buy that 2 pack.

I don't know off the top of my head but I've got some older but barely used M12 barrel style (2ah?) and some flat bottom ones (5ah?).
When doing brakes I always have to get some convuluted mix of extensions and wobble adapters to get get to some bolts around the suspension.
Been wanting to get one of these but not sure if I need some fancy batteries to get the full chooch.
