IMHO, this is like giving our cats a candy bar. They are not nutritious food. And, by purchasing them, I believe we're allowing companies to take advantage of our love for our furbies by charging outrageous prices for about ONE OUNCE of cat-candy. Dispicable, I say. One of these 'cups' equals 1/5th of a can of real food for much more money. Don't agree? Fine. Throw your money away. If they were priced at .10-.20 apiece I'd say, great, have a treat. But not when they cost more than their actual food. I don't sub to SD for nothing! ;-)
Over the years, we've had 4 cats. Three lived for over 20 years. Our remaining baby is 24 and happy/healthy. We got them all as baby strays.

I like candy bars.
I bet my cats would love a kitty candy bar.
See, we've agreed that we don't want to live for ever.
If you've ever taken 24/7 care of elderly family member, you'll know why sometimes it's best to not live a very long life. Or better yet, visit a nursing home and see what a hoot it is..

As someone's who's both worked in a nursing home and an elderly daycare, there are older people who have high quality of life all the way until they pass away quite peacefully. If you don't take good care of your cats or your elderly, they have a higher chance of becoming unhealthy, unable to care for themselves, in chronic pain as they age.

It's ok to give your cats or yourself an occasional treat of course.

These are good to add liquid to my cats diet. I haven't found a wet food either of them likes so I use these to supplement their dry food diets. My oldest used to get constipated a lot but now with these and some Miralax added to their water, havent had an episode in 4-5 months (knock on wood).

WARNING: The following is TMI if you're not really interested in the question! ;-)

Are you ready?! Meow Mix Original stuff in the bag.
They loved it. They were all grazers, meaning they would eat a little lots of times during the day and night. We used a gravity feed bowl type of system and always had fresh water next to the food, of course. The cats all refused to eat wet food or human food. They wouldn't even touch canned tuna or sardines or table scraps. So, in a nutshell, they ate nothing but dry original Meow Mix. They were all the very definition of 'finicky'.
Until...
About 1.5 years ago, a few years after her 'sister' (Onions) passed at 23, our then 22 year old (Mushrooms) stopped eating. We quickly figured out that she had age-related dental issues and couldn't chomp comfortably on the dry nuggets. I bought nearly every kind and flavor of soft and wet food without much success.
We found that she was slurping up only the gravy! I tried the "Extra Gravy" and even mixed it in - still ate only the gravy. And because she's still a grazer, she was leaving most of her food (except the gravy) untouched so it dried out before her next graze. At this time I was now only putting out 1/4 can a day, 4 times daily. She was not getting the nutrients she needed from the gravy alone.
Then I saw those Churro's and Friskies Likables semi-liquid packets of cat 'treats'. They were rediculously expensive but I bought a package and mixed it into Friskies cans of pate thinking maybe this 'cat-crack' might help. I mixed that stuff into the pate. That was a few months ago. Success! Since then, we've now weaned her off that crap and she's now eating the Friskies (all flavors) unadulterated 4 times a day (1/4 can at a time). Thank goodness we're off those 'treats'. Mushrooms is now set on this good diet and is annoyingly happy - she's now MEOWING us at 5am (and every 3-4 hours) to eat!
Just like us, when our pets get older, age-related issues crop up. In this case it was dental stuff. FWIW, my wife used to be a veternary assistant and has been an oral surgery assistant (people) for 38 years. She also teaches dental students at a college here in Boston.
If anyone wants more info or clarifications, I'm all ears.
RIP: Garlic, Carrots, Onions.

Nice story but I take exception to your portrayal of Churu's as some sort of junk food. Indeed they are made with quality ingredients and are only 6 calories per tube. Given once a day as a treat, I can't imagine why you were so rushed to get your dear cats off of them,, especially when they enjoy them so much!
  • MADE WITH WHOLESOME INGREDIENTS YOU CAN TRUST: Every Inaba product is made with yummy high-quality ingredients, including real chicken, wild-caught tuna, and now Norwegian Salmon
  • KEEP YOUR CAT HYDRATED WITHOUT ADDING CALORIES: Each delicious Churu lickable cat treat contains 91% moisture and only ten calories (a tenth of the calories of traditional dry cat treats), which makes it a healthy treat you can feel good about feeding
  • FREE OF THE BAD STUFF: Your feline friend is important to us, which is why we've kept things like grains, preservatives, and artificial colors out of our cat treats, but we add things like Green Tea & Taurine to help with their overall health
  • HAVE THEM EATING OUT OF YOUR HAND: These creamy lickable cat treats are designed to be fed by hand as a way to enhance the bond between cat and pet parent, but you can use them as a topper or as a way to disguise medication
  • ADD SOME VARIETY TO YOUR CAT'S LIFE: Available in four savory, Salmon-based flavors, cats of all stages (kitten to senior) your kitty is sure to find one they will love
You said "Churros" so if in fact you were feeding your cats fried, sugary, doughy treats, then that's a different story! Big Grin

Yes, it's a cat treat not food. Thanks for stating the obvious.

SteveW5756 It's like giving your toddler a twinkie. Once a month, fine. Personally, I wouldn't do it. To each their own.
Save up for the vet bills down the road. As I said, my 4 cats have/had lived happily and healthy for over 20 years, and between them all, have had 2 visits to the vet. One of them was to put one of my dear ones to sleep. We were heartbroken sitting while she got the needle in our lap. RIP: Onions

Not really, it's literally tuna broth and tuna with some binding agents. Comparing this to a twinkie is insane, but so is claiming that you've had 4 cats that lived to over 20 and have only made 2 vet visits in that time lol, you sure are a funny one!
