Not an amazing price but not bad if you want a no hassle buying experience and already have batteries. These are the more compact "fuel" size as far as head depth that has replaced the old brushed model as the choice for low torque ratchet. There's a new one coming out is maybe a little better in all ways including access as the head area is more tapered below the head, and the paddle or switch option is cool, but I'd expect they'll be quite a bit more coin for some time to come.

These are gen 2, gen 3 has a nice torque bump 1/4" is 45ft-lbs, 3/8" is 70, 1/2" is 80 and comes out roughly march/april. Bare tool is ~$229 without any deals, I'd say wait cause the gen 2 really feels not powerful enough.

the 1/4 ratchets (fuel and regular) never go on sale? I've been keeping an eye out since before BF and nothing except the extended grip or high torque.

Rarely, the brushed OG model at least is an easy anvil swap and I think the anvil is only 15-20 bucks, for what it's worth, no one wanted to give me a decent amount for my brushed so I bought the 1/4 anvil to install at some point.

The anvil/head whatever you want to call it is removable, you can swap it out to any of the sizes available for a given model generally. (same is true of most impact wrenches as well)

What's the purpose of extra torque in a tool that isn't made for breaking bolts loose, just spinning them off and on?

The ratchets are mostly used for the top end of an engine where the bolts are only torqued from 10-45 ft-lbs, i.e. valve covers, coil plugs, thermostat housing, undercarriage plastic covers, transmission pan, etc. Some cordless ratchets don't have the torque to undo them so you use it as a normal ratchet to break it loose then pull the trigger to undo it but some ratchets the anvil is flimsy and can break. Torque test channel on yt has good testing on this, shows which brands break and which can apply 100-200 ft-lbs by just using leverage. Anything with higher torqued values like suspension bolts, head bolts, etc you would use an m18 mid-torque or high-torque. All in all having higher torque on the ratchet saves time because it can break free these low torque bolts and won't lose any speed with 50 ft-lb bolts.

Ah okay so there are some circumstances where you do use it to break bolts free. I am just a filthy casual but everything i have used it for requires manually breaking the bolt with the tool and then engaging the motor to spin the bolt off

Ya it's mostly a matter of speed and convenience. If you're a pro mechanic time = money, if you're just wrenching at home its just nice to finish jobs in less time.
