I bought one we will see how it goes. I was looking at buying a new one from Sam's or Costco for $329, those both came with an extra bottle of black ink, but I think the $129 savings for a refurbished unit will be worth it.

Bought one at 269.99 price recently. FYI epson charges for return shipping from their store. eBay says seller pays for return shipping.

Don't know about this particular model, but I highly recommend the EcoTank line. I've bought three (3) in the past 2 years -- all refurbs -- for extended family and self (mine is an ET-4850) and all of us are 100% satisfied. In fact, my B&W laser has had more hiccups than the 4850 (zero for the latter).

EDIT: By the way, the model line is "EcoTank", not "Supertank".

EcoTank is Epson's trade name for the printer system, while supertank is the general nomenclature for this style of printer. Same to Kleenex and tissues, but these just are confusingly similar and everyone gets confused. I hate it here. 🙃

Ink is dirt cheap. You can get a full set of sealed OEM ink tanks on eBay for like $30

That said - I hate the ET-48XX line.
It's a rear-feed printer which commonly misfeeds paper crooked and makes a huge mess.

The rear feed can accept MAYBE 100 pages of paper, and takes up tons of space because you need more rear clearance. I cannot tell you how stupid this printer design is.

The prints look great, when they feed correctly. It's also super slow, which normally wouldn't matter but if your computer goes to sleep during long prints you will inevitably have the print get interrupted.

I bought the ET-5800 and it's just so radically better I cannot recommend it enough. But apples and oranges in many respects.

I bought the ET-3950 "renewed" from epson and I am in the process of returning it now for a replacement. The prints come out with faint lines across the right side of paper and the letters on documents come out looking double, kind of like a ghost image. Did all the troubleshooting and nothing helps. Epson said the replacement will be a new product though, let's see how it goes.
Bad luck i guess.
As a side note. There seems to be a lot of these refurbished units everywhere for Epson's latest line of printers like the ET-2980, ET-3950, ET-4950 etc, from amazon to epson, Ebay, etc. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence...
Added images to show.

What about the deal on the ET-4958? That one has normal feeding from a tray under the printer?

Epson's own site says "Epson EcoTank. The World's #1 Selling SuperTank Printer."

Okay. Just to be clear, I wasn't thread-crapping or criticizing you, I was just emphasizing the term more specific to the product line.

I would say it's a completely serviceable platform provided it doesn't use the rear-feed system.

The slow printing I could've lived with - but the rear feed, and the headaches that caused - it was the straw which forced me to just get a different ecotank from Epson.

I'm going to assume it has the higher resolution print head the other 48XX printers have, so if the price is right - I'd go for it

No problem. To be honest, I've never heard of "supertank" either...I call them tank-style printers, but if Supertank is the "Kleenex of tissues" then I'll start calling that style printer "Supertank". Big Grin
