There's a variant (power 5g) of this one that can be had for $33 unlocked right now. I purchased it yesterday at my local best buy. It's Verizon and a simple chat will cancel the service.

Also the Straight Talk moto g 2025 is $30 at Walmart. You can contact customer service to rebrand and use on TracFone.

Unlocking a cellphone associated with one of Verizon Value's brands refers to disabling software that would otherwise prevent you from activating the cellphone on another carrier's network. However, due to different carrier technologies, an unlocked Verizon Value cellphone may not work, or may experience limited functionality, on another carrier's network. Verizon Value is not responsible for any limitations of service, or otherwise, resulting from the use of an unlocked cellphone on another provider's network. Verizon Value is unable to unlock Non-Verizon Value branded cellphones using Verizon Value service (BYOP).
Verizon Value will remotely unlock the phone when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:
Verizon Value will unlock the phone upon request, either remotely (for phones capable of remote unlocking) or by providing unlocking codes (for phones not capable of remote unlocking) when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:
The cellphone must be in working condition and turned ON.
The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost and there are no indicators of fraud.
The cellphone was activated with Verizon Value service by purchasing and redeeming an airtime plan on that specific phone ("Activation")
For all cellphones Activated on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked upon customer request after 365 days of paid and active service.
For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or before January 19, 2026, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.
For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service.

So, we went from 60 days, back to 365 days. I wonder whose idea was that? Vomit
Jan change with 2026 trump administration where verizon wanted the old understanding overturned (it was spectrum rules with a specific frequency that verizon had access to, but not other companies like at&t)
Trump administration and Verizon wanted to do it earlier but they had to wait till Jan 2026 due to the rules with that specific alphabet agency with the rule making process, gotta appoint new people, then you give a waiting period for comments before you change the rules overnight.

Got this on clearance from Walmart the other day for 19.00. It was on the cricket service but didn't care. Gave it to my son to game on. Works like a charm for the stuff he plays

That's great. Cricket Motorola phones now have software to prevent them from being used on wi-fi without service.
Don't lose the original cricket sim card.

I keep that in the box. So far no issues with it just using wifi.

I actually have an old Moto G6 that's soo old its stuck on android 9, I've been trying to find a cheap phone that I could just take my sim out of this old phone and put it in a newer one. What area was the walmart that you got your clearance phone from? I'm in Ventura County socal.
A few years back I bought an unlocked google pixel phone to replace it, and when I got the phone I put the sim fron my old to the new, and it worked for a few minutes until I get a msg from cricket telling me that this phone wasnt an authorized phone and for me to remove the sim.
