This seems like a great deal right? I'm looking for something around this price point that is reliable and has a backlit keyboard. And a 15+ inch screen.

I would say it's a great deal. CPU is really good, could probably upgrade the single SO-DIMM too. Only hit is the 45% NTSC screen but hard to argue with the price.

your expectations are too high for a sub $300 laptop. This thing has a current gen i5, a 512GB SSD, and 12GB of RAM for $280. Yes, the display and the connectivity are lackluster, but good luck beating it for the price.
