This Legion Pro 5 pairs a 16 inch 1600p OLED 165Hz display with a Ryzen 7 8745HX, RTX 5060, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD, making it strongest as a premium screen gaming laptop with generous memory. The 32GB configuration stands out because upgrading laptop RAM is costly right now, and the OLED panel gets praise for brightness and image quality. The main knocks are the $1180 price, the 8GB VRAM limit, and the lack of USB4 on this CPU version. It is a solid fit if display quality and memory matter more than chasing the cheapest 5060.

Common Questions (6)

  • The 16-inch 1600p 165Hz OLED panel with 500 nits is a major selling point and is considered far better than typical sub-$1000 gaming laptop screens. It's also a point of disagreement versus MacBook displays, with some preferring the Legion's panel and others preferring the MacBook's.

  • It's a stronger value if you want the 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD configuration, especially with the 16-inch 1600p OLED 165Hz panel. The main knock is that similar RTX 5070 laptops have appeared near the same price, and this model has reportedly been cheaper before.

  • The RAM can be upgraded later, but the GPU is fixed, so some buyers prefer spending on the better graphics card first. In this deal, the included 32GB DDR5 matters because upgrading from 16GB to 32GB can be expensive right now.

  • The RTX 5060 is close to the mobile RTX 5070 in performance, but both are still 8GB VRAM cards, which can be limiting in newer games. That makes the GPU acceptable for many titles, but not ideal if you want extra VRAM headroom.

  • No USB4 is reported on this configuration with the Ryzen 7 8745HX, even though it does have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4. That missing port is one reason the laptop may be priced lower.

  • One reported unit hard-crashed under gaming load when the CPU spiked past 100°C, even after BIOS, driver, power-profile, and fan-profile changes. Stability was only achieved by capping the CPU at 99% with boost disabled and running the fans at full speed.

This or refurbished Acer Helios 16s 5070ti? Want to play gta 6
I'm also trying to decide. I went ahead and bought the Helios 16s with a 5070ti for $1450 when it was on sale for one day. Honestly, this laptop is really good! The battery isn't the best, but I still got a few hours of use during work. Also the screen is amazing. I keep hearing the 8gb vram video card is a killer though on games and 12 gb with a 5070ti makes a huge difference.

What are you trying to show with that link? Sure it's a 5070, but half the RAM? And $50 more? That's not a better deal at all.
To be fair, you can always upgrade the ram later. GPU you're stuck with. And 16gb is plenty if you run Linux or a non-bloated version of Windows.

Thanks for the deal! My laptop literally died while I was at work trying to access my NAS so this came in clutch.

3060/4060/5060 laptops use to float around $799 now its $1200 which is 3070/4070/5070 territory. There's a sucker born every minute huh?
the RAM in the laptop has gone up 200-300 bucks. I wonder why the laptops now cost more?
Also: you weren't getting a 165hz 1600p OLED display in an 800 buck laptop.

Unless you're talking about recent issues with the brand, I've had nothing but a stellar experience with my 7yr old Acer Predator. ZERO issues, still heavily use it today for 1080p gaming.

Exactly, I bought this back on early BF for $1100 but with 16GB of RAM. Had I known it was going to be this cheap with 32GB I would have held off for sure. The difference between the screen on a $1200 laptop and a $800 laptop is huge, I've owned a few of the more budget gaming laptops and my last 2 have been premium screen xx60 models and I won't go back.

Do only people who game use this? Is any legion laptop not good for someone who doesn't game?

How does this compare to an old xps 15 9520 laptop that has i7-12700h processor and 32gb ram and Intel xe graphics and Nvidia 3050?

How is the battery on this when not doing any gaming? Say web browse and YouTube? I recall it was said as long as you turn off the rtx 5060, then the battery would be normal? Since it is a Ryzen processor, what is the regular graphics card? For Intel, it's Intel xe graphics. For Ryzen, it's what?
