is that good or bad? cuz i've been trying to keep an eye on brushless stuff since they're supposed to perform better under load right? I don't do a lot of projects, but once in awhile i get DIY ideas and i'm just collecting tools for the future.

Sanders are one of the things I would just rather have a cord on, and the top rated Bosch is the same price

Can you explain why you prefer corded sander?

It's good general sander. Lots of vibration, but the key is more about moving it smoothly vs gripping it to death. The previous version of the 1/4 sheet and the corner sander handle the majority of my sanding. the 1/4 is good for rough to smooth sanding, though it can't match a belt sander for removing material or a random orbital for finishing. But the availability of paper choices make it very convenient. The corner and round sanders all use special cut papers, so your options are limited. Here you can go from 36 to 800 and every step in between if you want.

Is there a scenario where you'd reach for this over a random orbit sander?

I have a mix of Ryobi and Dewalt tools and I don't notice any difference in performance between the two.

Over the years I've had Bosch, DeWalt and PorterCable battery powered drills. None of them lasted that long. I ended up buying a Ryobi drill set (drill and impact) with two batteries and charger for $99.00 on sale. They have outlasted all of the other aforementioned drills and are still going strong. However, the fabric carrying case is falling apart but I'll get over that.
