Memory: 16 GB LPDDR5X-8000MT/s (Soldered) - This kind of kills the laptop since you can't upgrade it later. Unfortunate.

LOL, what are you people doing where you can't even do basic tasks with 16GB of ram? How many dozens upon dozens of tabs do you have open in Chrome.....all playing videos at the same time? Seriously, 16GB of ram is fine for 90% of office / school type users if don't let your PC get bogged down with bloatware*, 'extensions*,' and / or malicious software*.
*what I think most of the problem is. People either blame the laptop for their misuse or over compensate the specs not realizing they are just countering the overhead of their own, again, misuse.

Community Reviews

This IdeaPad Pro 5 stands out as a thin 16 inch OLED laptop with an RTX 5050, strong build quality, and a premium feel for the price. The 2.8K 120Hz screen gets repeated praise, and the GPU plus 8GB of VRAM makes it appealing for light gaming and moderate workloads. Storage is more flexible than expected, with two M.2 slots and support for 2242 and 2280 drives. The main drawback is the soldered 16GB LPDDR5X memory, which limits upgrades and may feel tight for heavier multitasking. Battery life is also modest, and a few reports describe freezing or overheating under light gaming.

  • The 16GB LPDDR5X memory is soldered, which limits future RAM upgrades.

  • The laptop can freeze and require hard shutdowns even during light browsing or non-demanding games.

    hilliAquaThread200

  • The laptop may overheat easily during gaming, and blue screens can occur when plugging in while warm or waking on battery.

    AquaThread200

  • Lenovo checkout sales tax can be calculated incorrectly, which may lead to a higher card charge than the order confirmation shows.

Oh my god the arguments about RAM never cease to annoy me on this website.
If you know you need more than 16gb of ram, hold out for another laptop. 16 is fine for normal everyday laptop stuff including the light gaming you'll be doing with the 5050, and will be for years.

You're looking for this kind of deal which was available on Costco during thanksgiving sale [touch screen, 32GB, 1TB, 285H and 5050...all for $999.99]

https://slickdeals.net/f/18727435-lenovo-ideapad-pro-5i-16-2-8k-oled-120hz-core-ultra-9-32gb-ram-rtx-5050-1000-starts-11-27

Keep eye on it and it might go on sale sometime but price might be $100 more or so (based on past experience with costco deals)

There are a lot of people who can't afford a 32gb laptop and they do basic tasks where 16gb is fine for them. I woulnd't call this a dealbreaker or not future-proof since it is highly dependent on the user. For my mom, this would absolutely be fine for at least 3 years. I would be more concerned with the quality since 32gb of ram does you no good if the laptop dies in 2 years.
The RTX 5050 should be good enough for my mom...I think.

No, it isn't. It's 16GB of RAM, period. The two are completely different buckets for most work and do completely different things.
What do you think your integrated graphics uses?
