Wait so there are no controllers on the market even worth buying? I DO NOT play Smash games, just casual Zelda, Mario and on PC about the same.
I'm not saying they're bad controllers, I'm saying they all have quirks.

I love all my 8bitdo controllers. I already had two of the Pro 3's and I bought a third just because I like the color.

I bought this last time it was on sale. The controller feels great, use it mainly for pc, input latency is pretty good. One big downside though, which might have turned me away from this controller before I bought it, none of the extra buttons can be mapped to keyboard keys or functions in the 8bitdo software. The ONE thing I wanted to do with these extra buttons is assign one of them as a dedicated Steam screenshot button but Steam only sees this as an Xbox controller and doesn't recognize any of the extra buttons, so you can't use steam controller software as a workaround as far as I'm aware unless there's some creativity possible with action layers or radial menus. From the google searches I did, you can essentially pretty much only assign the extra buttons as one of the normal existing buttons.

Maybe there's some third party solutions, but out of the box, it's not as customizable as you assume it should be. Something to note before buying this is you're buying it for pc.

Man, not being able to map the extra buttons in their "ultimate" software is a big oversight. I'll pass on this one, thx.

How good is the d-pad. I play a lot of retro games via emulation on my raspberry pi 4. D-pad is very important. I can't stand the d-pad on my current 8bitdo ultimate 2 controller. It's a whobbly mess.

Had this been on sale under $40, I might've considered buying another one.
