Might be a wild concept but the typical use for these is trim (baseboard, crown molding, etc) which is done when a house is being built. You know. Without the power hooked up. Generally any tool you dont have to plug into a generator for small tasks (like a drill or say a small miter saw) is preferable.

Doesn't look like it. Typically they say "Hybrid" in the description if they can do both.

There's a similar model but corded for $55 (https://www.directtoolsoutlet.com...s/zrts1144). I have no direct experience with either.

So you can do work on jobsites?

Looks like a non sliding one, in case of any one looking for a reason not to buythis Smilie I would defenitely buy a sliding one. Although this cuts, sliding is more convenient.
The problem with the sliding one (I own one) is that it is poorly made. The direction of the slide is not the same as the blade. It is off by 1-2 degrees. So if you make a sliding cut, it will be different than a non-sliding cut. The only adjustment is the fence, so you can only choose which to align to. If you dont care about 1-2 degrees perpendicularity of your cuts, then it will work fine. The 10" ryobi slider is much better made and I would recommend that one vs the 7 1/4 slider. If you just need to cut trim, this is fine.

All the factory reconditioned tools I've purchase from Direct Tools have been damaged/broken in some way or another. Ridgid planer: broken parts, had to find replacements myself. Ridgid 12 inches miter saw: bent fence. Ryobi multi tool: clearly used, still covered in drywall dust, and doa. Ryobi hand planer: would power on but bottom part was heavily damaged from a previous drop and beyond repair.

The ryobi tools were just used returns and damaged tools resold without checking if they still worked properly.

Avoid factory reconditioned and buy blemished only. Those have been new or like new, and not a single issue with them so far.

Good to know, I may get it. My humongous Dewalt with all the bells and whistles is still in the box because of size and weight.

agree 100%. I suspect certain unscrupulous people buy these new, use them heavily on a job and then return them. They are not professional tools, and will last at least one job. Then they are sold without any refurbishment or verification they are up to spec.

I can't imagine anyone being able to lift a 15lb tool. Once this is in place, it's staying permanently. Probably leave it behind if I move.

Thanks for the heads up. I've never bought from there, doesn't seem worth the risk

I think I was just very unlucky with my orders. On the other hand, all the factory blemished tools came in like new or new condition, with most of them still factory sealed.
They do have free returns for damaged or non working tools if you contact them within 7 days.

In my case, when I contacted them, they said my only option was to return the miter saw for a full refund. I chose to keep it because I didn't need precise cuts for framing and my wife wanted the job done, lol. Later I fixed the fence myself.
As for the planer, I had to spend around an extra 50 bucks to replace a couple of missing nuts and a badly damaged infeed table. Luckily it was still cheaper than buying a new one or a used one from marketplace.

This was between 2024 and 2025. I haven't purchased anything from them since then. Maybe their quality control has improved?

A good use for this is if you own a small car and want to buy some lumber that'll need to be cut anyways but too long for your car. instead of having to borrow someone's truck or having it delivered, you can just buy it, cut it in the parking lot, and put it into your car

Totally correct. Their reconditioned tools are a crapshoot. Some are ok, a lot are not. The blemished ones are fine. They are brand new. Only difference between blemished and new is the sticker on the box. I have bought a lot from DTO and if the sale is legit, not all are, I get stuff when they do free shipping. I am able to visit their stores a few times a year as there are none within 250 of me. In store, I will buy refurbished. But only if I can take it out and test it the day of purchase. Then I can return it if it is junk. Don't buy refurbished online, save the pain.

I have this saw. There's definitely pros and cons.
Pros: Light, small, and portable. Not just cordless, but also easy to move around for quick small jobs. Works well for window or door casing (pine, PVC, or mdf) or most baseboards. Small trim in general.

Cons: Limited cutting capacity. I really wish they would have gone with an 8" blade or made this slide just a little bit. I've run into situations where even straight cuts are lacking. I think you can barely cut a standard 4-5/8" door jamb IIRC, but that's about the limit. A 1x6 is not possible, even with a straight cut. The power also can't really handle hardwood trim without serious blowout, and bogs down when cutting most 2x material (2x4, 2x3, etc)

This is for specific use cases in my opinion. If you are looking for a general use saw, get something a little bigger or sliding, and something with a bit more power. I don't regret my purchase because I do use it fairly often, but for most jobs I use my 10" sliding saw.

I owned this and used it for several projects then opt for a dewalt slider because I needed the extra cutting width. Plus the dewalt have a larger blade which helps a lot.
