Yes, Roku have some ads, like at the main screen. They advertise their channels, AFAIK.

Roku OS is the best, its fast, vs others like Google TV, Samsung, LG OS, which is slow and laggard.

On the Roku sticks you can plug them into the usb port on your tv. I have 3 Roku sticks and power all of them this way. Using the tv usb port powers the Roku stick down when the tv cuts off. The downside is you need to wait for the stick to boot up when you power the tv on. This takes...20 secs or so. That wait time doesn't bother me and is worth it for me to make sure it doesn't stay on and automatically start a new video stream.
